  • Women bacame legal people

    Women were said to be legal "persons" by the Imperial Privy Council, meaning that they could hold seats in the Canadian Senate. The famous five were: Nellie Mclung, Irene Parlby, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Louise McKinney and Emily Murphy (BSS old girl)
  • Black Tuesday

    Black Tuesday was the symbol of the econimic malaise. The New York stock exchange accelerated which then led to a panic of citizens selling stocks which had majorly decreased in value. Almost 16.5 million shares were sold by panicked investors attempting to sell shares that were worth fortunes for mere pennies.
  • First Woman Appointed to the Senate

    Cairine Reay Wilson was first woman senator. She was an active philanthropist, and leader od Woman's liberal clubs and youth groups. She was also canadas first woman delegate to the UN in 1949. Outspoken againest anti-semitism in Canada.
  • R.B Bennet Made Prine Minister

    Was in office Augest 7th, 1930-October 23rd 1935. From New Brunswick. Conservative party leader from 1927-1938. Leader of the opposition 1935-1938.
  • Maple Leaf Gardens Built

    In 1931 in the height of the Great Depression, Conn Smyth built MLG. It remains a historic sight in Toronto.

    The Vancouver Art Gallery was founded
  • First Radio Drama

    The first episode of "The Romance of Canada" was broadcasted from Montreal; it was the first series of radio drama produced in Canada.
  • New Brunswick Women Rights

    New Brunswick Women get the right to offiec- right to hold provincial office.

    The Montreal Sympphony Orchestra, which is now called Ochestre symphonique de Montreal) was founded, with Wilfred Pelletier as its first conductor

    The Bank of Canada Act created The Bank of Canada in response to the 1933 Royal Commission on Banking and Currency
  • R.B Bennet Outlines "New Deal"

    Made live radio speeches outlining "new deal"in order to win 1935 election. New deal promised more progressive taxation, maximum work week, minimum wage, closer regulation of working conditions, unemployment insurance, health and accident insurance, revised old-age pension, agricultural support programs. Bennet lost the Octomer 1935 election.
