Colorful and bright board books were my favorite at the early age.My mother used to teach me nursery rhymes which were actually passed from generation to generation. I could recite few of them and those were a lot of fun!
My favorite children's book of all times is "The Collection of Children's poems" by Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj. ( Serbian author) -

I remember getting a book for my birthday from this lady who was my mom's coworker. The next day, after going through my presents I told my mom I didn't like the book because it was old and ugly. What I meant was: the book had black and white illustrations and I didn't even want to read it!

I was a big fan of TV shows for children. Well, I so wanted to be in the audience in my favorite show that was called "Sing a song" . My uncle bought tickets and I was thrilled knowing the show went live and my parents were watching me. When they called my number, they said I had to recite a short poem. As soon as I got there, I started crying! I was so scared of all those people watching me. Well I still got a bunch of coloring books to take home!

Learning letters and numbers was so much fun, I enjoyed it a lot. It was a new concept for me. Being able to match the letters with objects was like a puzzle game.

I was a big fan of Walt Disney's fairy tales. My mom would read those to me over and over again, especially before bedtime.
"Snow White", " Cinderella", "Sleeping Beauty" are definitely my favorite ones! -
Kindergarten was all about play, learning letters, numbers, days of the week, months, and basic concepts which prepared us for first grade. The teacher used to read us a lot of stories, and my favorite ones were the participation books. I enjoyed repeating the book's suggestion such as clapping hands, touching our toes, etc.

I originally come from Serbia, and I lived there until the age of 15. Since one of my school friends was taking private English classes at the famous University, I wanted to learn English as well! I had English lessons once a week, and this is when English alphabet, numbers and new words were introduced to me. I was beyond proud.
English doesn't start to be a requirement for students until the 5th grade. -
In 3rd grade we read a lot of stories with important messages and moral tales. Most of them were fables, short stories with animals. Aesop's fables were very popular at this age. "The Ant and the Grasshopper", "The Fox and the Crow" are some of the examples.
We were learning about the plot, summarizing the stories, and the differences between main characters. -
I was a very curious child. I always had a lot of questions for my parents, grandparents. I was so excited when my mom bought me this thick ,hard cover encyclopedia called " 1000 questions, 1000 answers" by a serbian author Vojin Ancic. I would read it every day at home, and would teach my younger brother. I even pretended I was his science teacher. This book was contains information about science, nature, animals, plants, history, art, etc.

English class in 9th grade was probably my least favorite and I did not enjoy it at all. Even though I think ancient Greek Mythology is amazing and has some of the world's best literature works, at the age of 15 I found them really difficult to understand.
"Antigone" by Sophocles and "Iliad" by Homer. -
This was my first long novel I read in US.It was required for our ESL English class.

This was the last book I read in my senior year of high school. Science fiction stories are not the type of books I like to read. I thought the book was too complicated and had to reread paragraphs very often.

Ivo Andric is one of the most popular Serbian authors.My brother was visiting our country and brought me back this book. I always felt like I should never stop reading in Serbian. I would like my children to know and read in our language as well.
This book explains the situation in our country during World War II, and some religious conflicts between local people of the area close to Drina river. It won a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1961. -
I haven't watched the movie,but was very curious to find out what this novel was about. I absolutely enjoyed it! I love inspirational and motivational stories. It is a very powerful novel that I took with me on my Honeymoon to Hawaii.
