    French and Indian war

    French and Indian War Information THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR between France, Britan, and Indians(Britan's ally). The French and Indian War was fought in the Ohio Valley. 2/3 of the British troops sent died. After the war France gave Great Britan Canada.
  • Treaty of Paris

    This treaty ended the war between France and Britan. When France signed the treaty they gave Canada to Britan. After the war the colonists never felt better to be British.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    THE PROCLAMATION OF 1763 was ment to end disputes between the settlers and the Indians. The Proclamation says that the settlers will stay to the East of the Appalachians, and the Indians had to stay to the West. The problem was that there were already settlers to the East of the mountains.

    THE STAMP ACT was ment to pay off the debt from the French and Indian War. The Stamp Act says that every piece of paper will be taxed. The colonists thought the stamp was an act of tyranny by the king.

    THE BOSTON MASSACRE was an event were there is a killing of defenseless poeple. What really happend was a small riot. The bostinians had been making fun of the red coats, like calling them "lobsterbacks."
  • Boston Tea Party

    THE BOSTON TEA PARTY was caused by the Tea Act. The Tea Act was created by Lord North, to try and save the British East India Company. 3 ships from the company came to the colonies to sell tea. About 50 PATRIOTS dressed as Mohawk Indians through over all the tea.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The reason these acts got the name is because they were so harsh. The Intolerable Acts were designed to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. The harbor was closed down until the tea was payed for. The British took more control over the Massachusetts government.

    First Continental Congress

    This meeting brought together many leaders. During this meeting boycotts on some items were decided until the Intolerable Acts were repealed. Also, they sent a message to the King to consider their complaints and rights.

    Revolutionary War

    The First shots were at Lexington. The revoloutionary war was fought between Britan and the colonists. The LOYALISTS did not fight with the colonists because they followed what the king says. The Revolutionary war lasted several years.
  • Second Continental Congress

    At the SECOND CONTINENTAL CONGRESS it was proposed to start a CONTINENTAL ARMY. GEORGE WASHINGTON was choosen to lead the continental army. Also, at the Second Continental Congress the leaders came up with the idea of the Declaration of Independence.

    There were many ideas leading up to the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE. One of these ideas was The OLIVE BRANCH PETITION, where the continental congress asked for KING GEORGE III to end thr war. THOMAS PAINE wrote COMMON SENSE to talk the colonists into wanting independence. THOMAS JEFFERSON and a few others were appointed to make a draft of the Declaration of Independence.

    Articles of Confederation

    The ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION was a plan of government. The Articles of Confederation gave Congress several important powers. Some of these are: war and peace, raise an army and a navy, print money, and set up a postal system.

    Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's rebellion started because of money shortages. These shortages led to the farmers not getting paid enough. Shays and the otherr rebellers shut down courts, so they will not take the rebellers' land. After this rebellion Congress decided they needed to revise the Constitution.

    The CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION was held on several hot summer days. George Washington was elected to be the presient of the convention. 55 delegates from 12 states showed, Rhode Island didn't show because they feared a strong national government. The GREAT COMPROMISE was the way of deciding of how many representitives and senators each state gets. The THREE-FIFTHS comprocides how much a slave is couned fo in a population count. the ELECTORAL COLLEGE elected who would become president.

    The NORTHWEST ORDINANCE was ment to solve the problem of whether the new territory should be colonies or new states. When a state reaches 5,000 free white men they could elect a legislature. Once that territory reached a population of 60,000 it could apply to congress to become a state.

    The CONSTITUTION is a written document that shows the powers of the different powers of the government. The constitution was divided into many sections. The constitution made sure that the government wasn't too strong, but strong enough to keep the country together.

    The BILL OF RIGHTS was a list of rights that the people had. Out of many proposed amendments only 12 passed. Some amendments ratify, or change, the constitution.
