Alone
Ann Burden, 16 years old is all alone a year after the nuclear war. She has been seeing smoke for a while now and fears thats the person might kill her or enslave her! -
From the Caves
The strange person has appeared to be comig closer and eventually reaches her house so Ann hides in a cave and watches him from a distance. -
The Wash
The man jumps into a pond full of water, but he didn't know that there was radiation still in the water. Ann hasnt met him yet. She wishes she would have told him the water was contaminiated. -
They Meet
Ann meets the man. His name is Mr. Loomis. He is sick by this time and Ann wants to help him. She is forever terrified that she will be alone again. -
Stage One
Mr. Loomis is in the first stage of radiation poisioning. Ann is helping him and makes plans for their future togeter hoping they get married in the spring. He teaches her ways to survive. -
The Poem
Ann reads Mr. Loomis "Epitaph for the Race of Men". She is happy that they can keep humanity from dying, she just wishes she would have warned him of the creek. -
Loomis starts to heal, but it gets worse.
Mr Loomis tells Ann about his dreams when he was in the second stage of the sickness. He begins to get better due to Ann's "companionship". However Ann worries about her hopes of their future together. -
Colony
Mr. Loomis got better and told Ann he wanted to start a colony with her. She started to panic. -
Fears
Ann fears Mr. Loomis is now a murderer due to his crazy actions and dream he had about killing a coworker one time. -
Stangeness
Ann is beginning to see more disturbing signs in Mr. Loomis. When she reads to him aloud James Austin's "Pride and Prejudice" he doesn't seem to listen to him.
