    The Louisiana Purchase was the largest amount of land America ever bought at once. Thomas Jefferson was the president that bought it from France. France had been in debt from war, so they needed the money. All Thomas Jefferson wanted was New Orleans, but Frances leader Nepolian gave him New Orleans and 828000 sq. miles of land for only 15 million dollars. Which was a pretty good deal for so much land. The United States expanded by a lot after the Louisiana Purchse was bought from the French.

    Lewis and Clark expedition
    In May of 1804, Lewis and Clark, along with 40 other men, set out to explore the newly bought land. Their main goal was to find a water way to the pacific ocean so they could transport goods. They never ended up finding the waterway, but they discovered many other plants and animals. The expedition took nearly 2 years. Although they didnt find what they had mainly been looking for, Lewis and Clark discovered many things that would help America in the future.

    The war of 1812 was a war between America and Great Britain. It was known as the forgotten war because it only lasted 2 years and ended in a tie. It started because France and Britain had been fighting for a while. The US didnt want to take a side so we could trade goods with both of them. When Britain found out we were still tradin goods with France they were very mad so war broke out. It ended 2 years later in a tie. This is why its called the forgotten war.

    In 1818, Andrew Jackson was told to go to Florida to take care od some Native Americans who were doing something bad. He ended up taking over spanish forts in the FLorida Territory. It wasn't until 1821 when the Adams Onis treaty was signed and got the US Florida. Florida ws originally Spainish territory, until the US bought it for 5 million dollars.

    James Monroe wanted nothing to do with Europe or other countries outside North and South America. Thats why he created the Monroe Doctrine. The Monroe Doctrine was pretty much a line seperating the North and South America from the rest of the world. No one could come to the US and the US woulnt go to anyone else. This ended a lot of trade and contact with other countries.

    Indian Removal Act/ Trail of Tears
    In 1830, president Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act, sending thousands of Native Americans on long, hard trip west. 5 tribes, Cherokee, Chactaw, Chickasaw, Seminoles, and Creeks were forced off their property and moved to Oklahoma. One tribe, the Seminoles, tried to fight for their land, but they lost. The Cherokee took their case to court, but they were ignored. The trail of tears was a terrible time in history that shoulnt be forgotten.

    Texas had once been a part of Mexico. Once it gained its Independence, it became its own country, the Republic of Texas. Their president was Sam Houston, who has the town Houston Texas named after him. They were their own country for 9 years. After those short 9 years, they asked to join America. In 1844, congress agreed to let Texas join the union

    The Oregon Territory was going to be the final part of manifest destiny. The US wanted to get the Oregon Territory from Great Britain. The slogan was 54 40 or fight. which meant the Us wanted the line 54 40 or we would fight. We ended up compromising with the 49 parallel line and that completed our hunt for land.

    The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
    The Mexican American war had been going on for 2 years. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed in 1848 to end the war.The war was started when Mexico was trying to keep property form America that was theirs when America asked for land. The Mexican government refused the offer.This caused tension in the southern states. The war ended in 1848.
