  • Japenese invasion of China

    A Chinese civil war took a long period of time from 1927-1950 but the war was invaded by Japan in 1937. The two sides of China united together (even though they hated eachother) to fight Japan. Japan was stronger and took control of most of Eastern China; however China did fight back.

  • Germany's Invasion of Poland

    The German-soviet pact of August, 1939, stated that Poland was to be partitioned between the two powers; which would enable Germany to attack Poland without being afraid of the Soviet intervention. September 1, 1939, was when Germany invaded Poland. The polish army was defeated only weeks into the invasion.
  • D-Day

    D-Day History ChannelOn June 6th,1944 was the battle or Normandy. The allied powers crossed the English Channel and landed on the Normandy beaches. The invasions happened at 6:30 a.m. By the end of the day 155,000 allied troops americans brittish and canadians had sucessfully stormed the beaches. It has served as an inspriration for many films. It was depicted in the HBO minii-series "Band of Brothers"
  • Iwo Jima

    On Februray 19th,1945 a large engagement in which the allied forces suffered more casualities.It was paert of a 3 point plan rthe americans had for winning the war.The marines lost 6,891 men and 18,070 were wounded. 22,000 japanese soldiers on the island and only 212 were taked to prison
  • Battle of Okinawa

    On April 1st, 1945, Allied forces invade the island of Okinawa and engage the Japanese in the bloodiest battle of the Pacific War. This was the Last and biggest of the Pacific Island battles of World War II, the Okinawa campaign. This Battle involved 287,000 Troops. Ended with 14,000 Dead. Battle of Okinawa
  • Death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the Presidency of Harry S. Truman

    On April 12, 1945, while sitting for a portrait in Warm Springs, Georgia, President Franklin D. Roosevelt spoke what were probably his last words ~"I have a Terrific Headache"~ and fainted. He died two hours later, of Cerebral Hemorrhage. Harry S. Truman (Vice-President) was rushed to the White House and was sworn in by Chief Justice Harlan Stone. Death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt
  • Dropping of Little Boy on Hiroshima

    President Harry S. Truman, warned by some of his advisers that any attempt to invade Japan would result in horrific American casualties , ordered that the new weapon ( the atomic bomb)

  • The Dropping of Fat Man (Nagasaki)

    Nagasaki suffered the same fate as Hiroshima in August 1945. The bombing of Nagasakii on August 9th was the last major act of World War II and within days the Japanese had Surrendered. Fat Man
