Japanese invasion of ChinaThe battle between the Japanese and Chinese troops introduced the Marco Polo matter. This made the Japanese take over China, creating the Sino-Japanese war. China was a wrecked community as a result. Nationalism was factor that rose post war. The conflicts, like desertion of homes and goods, after the war were considered as contributions for the culture. This invasion happened because Japan wanted to implant their knowledge into China, but the Chinese refused.
Germany's invasion of PolandGerman soldiers annexed Poland as a whole with German occupied province. Known German tactic, Luftwaffe, bombed Polish airstrips as they also used battleships and submarines to raid Polish military bases in the Baltic Sea. Hitler took over Poland as he wanted to expand his territory, for it meant more space for Germans. Germans conquered the district and the Slavs were hostages. This invasion gave west¢ral Poland to the Nazis and eastern was lent to the Soviets. It was used as a battlefield.
German BlitzkriegGermany used a blitzkrieg which is a ploy of sudden attack with tanks, planes, and artillery along a straight front. They used this plan for 2 years to invade much of Europe. Germany used this tactic to gain power but felt Europe was stopping them. It was going slow so the sudden attack allowed Germany to access many resources. Blitzkrieg led to many causalties and wreckage of societies. Countries were afraid if the attack was coming to them. This sudden attack was on all facades.
Fall of ParisHItler fires a blitzkrieg on Paris, France through the Ardennes. it diminished the Maginot defense plan. Also, he sent hefty powers into Paris whose troops could not handle the attack, for they departed the city. Germany did this as retribution for when France and Britain established Germanys abdication in WWI, for they embarrassed them. This attack led to Italy taking a part of France. The invasion caused the split of allies, France signed the armistice to stop fighting for an amount of time.
Operation BarbarossaGermany invaded Russia. In history, its the biggest solitary act for 3 million axis soldiers joined. Hitler believed Germans should expand their living space onto the east. Also, Hitler wanted to overcome communism in USSR and enslave the Soviets. The resources like oil fields would be useful. People then were proud of Stalin for turning the war and achieving success for USSR. This also led to hardships of Germany after consecutive losses. Even though USSR won, they suffered economically.
Pearl HarborAbruptly, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, a military base in the US. Japanese leader Mitsuo ordered the attack specifically on pearl harbor as he saw it as a threat. After the attack US declared war. Main reason for this was because the US put an embargo on Japan, as Japan wanted to conquer all of southeast Asia. Also, Japan craved for more oil to support their country. This attack finally involved the US into the war officially. Even though they wanted to avert it, the US wanted revenge on Japan.
Bataan Death MarchFollowing the Pearl Harbor bombing, Japan attacked Philippines. By a month it has taken over Philippines as a whole. US tried to help but eventually gave up, for they weakened. The surrendered US&Filipinos were forced to march, in groups, from 65 miles to San Fernando by the Japanese. Each group took 5 days to complete while many died on the way due to cruelty of the captors. US then invaded the island of Leyte after the loss in Philippines. Many troops suffered from starvation and disease.
Manhattan ProjectIt was a secret project administered by president Roosevelt to make nuclear weapons. Its the same plan that made the atomic bombs for the US. This task was made by the US with help from Canada&Britain. The goal of this project is to make atomic bombs the US can use to protect themselves from countries specifically Japan. The bombs from this project were planted onto Hiroshima&Nagasaki in Japan. This caused lifelong organism death, ruins in the areas and DNA mutations from the radiation till now.
Battle of MidwayThis battle was naval and occurred for 3 days. The US airplane deteriorated Japans frontal vigor. US overcame Japans toughest naval pilots, stopping any incoming threats on the pacific. This battle occurred as Japan was planning to invade Midway and stations in Aleutians which hindered with the US fleet. This battle signaled a turning point of military effort between US&Japan. Also made parity among Pacific naval powers of the 2 countries. Ended in the success of US navy which gained confidence.
Battle of StalingradBattle between Germany&USSR. This battle marked the turning point of the war in Allies favor. Russia blocked German drive and crumbled the German army. The Germans saw Stalingrad as a strategic area to invade for its location on the Volga river. When the Germans arrived Russia has built their defense and planned a counterattack. Soviets success was shameful to Hitler. He grew skeptical in his best generals. Stalin built up confidence in his military. He stayed offensive for the rest of the war.
Operation GomorrahBritain invades Hamburg, Germany. Britain alarmed Germany with a night attack, descending 2000 bombs in a matter of hours. This was Britain's way of revenge after what Germany did to British civilians. It was to prove that Britain has risen. This attack killed many Germans and was disastrous to Hamburg. Following this attack, Hitler comprehended failure. Moreover, he declined to go to cities that marked the end of the war.
Allied Invasion of ItalyAllies fire an attack on Italy. Started with British powers coming into Italy slowly. Then, US&British forces plunged a net among Italy while British troops followed Germans into the net. Allies wanted to demolish fascist regime and secure the Mediterranean. When Mussolini was arrested some Italian troops backed out. That benefited the Allies. Italy switched from Axis to Allies. Germany took over Italian bases and defeated the allies net.
D-Day (Normandy Invasion)Hugest attack by sea in history. It was after 5 years of battle with German, the allies invaded through the beaches of Normandy. Allies were capable of breaking the German military line and get to Berlin. They used aircrafts and battleships to achieve this conquest and control roads&bridges. This happened because the allies wanted to deteriorate Germany and end war. US motivated them to attack. In the end, Germany was forced to battle 2 fronts which was a failure, causing German loss.
Battle of the BulgeHitler launched a blitzkrieg from Ardennes to Antwerp. US troops were not ready. When Germany was annihilating the Ardennes, the Allies made a protrusion. Germany was losing fuel and the US was fighting harder. The US army managed to counterattack the German side. Later, US repaired the front and won. Hitler that this surprise attack was going to turn the war into his favor and cut allies forces. 100000 casualties occurred&Germany lost many resources which cost them the war.US rose in confidence
Operation ThunderclapBritish and US air powers joined together to bomb Dresden, city in Germany. This bombing was contentious because many felt that Germany was already defeated and this bomb just increased casualties for no reason. Dresden had no troops whatsoever. Allies did this to boost the Soviets uprise by disturbing rear areas of Germany. This operation ended up distressing German civilians.
Battle of Iwo JimaFirst strike from US to Japan. After preparing air and naval offense, 3 US marines landed on Iwo Jima. Japanese faces struggles fighting which led to US winning within a month. US went to this area as they needed a base near the Japanese coast. A place where B29 bombers injured over Japan without going to Marianas. After this attack, Japanese bases in that area were locked down. Japanese didn't know about bomber as there was no base to scout from. US benefited as they marked places to put bombs.
Battle of OkinawaAllies attack the island of Okinawa in Japan. The air centers were at risk, US landed on beaches. This helped the Japanese to activate strong defense of Okinawa. Japanese used tactics to support each other. Even though the Japanese fought hard, the allies won. This happened as Japanese powers reversed their ways of opposing the water's edge to a strong defense. Japan let out their last ship and weaponry to gain time. Many casualties were faced by Japan&US. Loss of ships, weapons, and airplanes.
VE DayBritain and US honor victory in Europe Day, as German soldiers among Europe let their guard down. Germanys main burden was to escape the hold of Soviet powers. The USSR took 2 million German troops. 13000 British troops were let go of in Germany. USSR&German contest continued the next day. Soviets let go of 600 in Silesia troops before the Germans surrendered.
Dropping of the Atomic BombsThe first atomic bomb was dropped in Hiroshima&Nagasaki by the US. The Hiroshima bomb called little boy wiped out 90% of the society. After 3 days, fat man bomb hit Nagasaki. The US carried out these bombs as revenge for Japanese bombing pearl harbor and to force them to surrender. There are lifelong affects from these atomic bombs including DNA mutation from radiation and thousands of deaths. US wanted this plan to end the war. The Soviet impact was denied after the bomb.
VJ DayIt was the Victory over Japan day which occurred at the end of WW2. This triumph was declared by President Truman. Following 6 years of war, Japan finally gave up by signing the Postdam declaration. This signified the end of the war. This day appeared when Japan surrendered. Japan delayed the Postdam for a long time but then realized it was the smartest choice to preserve what they have left. The atomic bombs encouraged the signing. World War II finally ended as a result.
