    A Japanese soldiers captured Great Wall of China in 1937, during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Empire of Japan and the Republic of China had been at war since 1931, but the conflict escalated in 1937. They carried out bombs and attacked China. Japanese soldiers fight in Shanghai, China in 1937. The battle of Shanghai lasted from August through November of 1937.

  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    Operation Barbarossa was launched to begin the east front - the German Invasion of the Soviet Union. The plan was to capture the capital of Moscow in little more than eight weeks. The winter weather and the lack of supplies allowed the Soviet Union to rearm beginning the Battle of Moscow. HItler was glad he defeated, yet discouraged so many Soviet Union troops escaped the battlefield. Operation Barbarossa ended Dec. 5th, 1941.

  • Japanese Internment

    Japanese Internment
    On Feb. 19th, 1942 FDR signed executive order 9006 which implemented internment camps. There were nearly 127,000 Japanese Americans, most on the west coast. Internment camps lasted until the end of the war and the last camp wasnt closed until June 30th, 1946.

    The battle came from Americas need of a base near japans coast. Iwo Jima was defended by 23,000 japanese and was attacked by 3 marine divisions. U.S. forces won the battle and captured Iwo Jima, although the island itself didnt help the war effort as much as it was expected.

    It was the last and deadliest battle of the Pacific War. The battle was fought over air bases that the U.S. needed for the projected invasion of Japan. It was the final land battle of the War and lead to America having the upper hand.
