    In December the Japanese attacked the city Nanking (Nanjing). The Chinese troops flead across the Yangtze River for safety. Because of this cowardly act the Japanese took control of the city killing at least 300,000 people, and raped 20,000 women over the course of 6 weeks. During the six weeks of raping, the women would be killed brutally after the Japanese soldiers were done with them. Some of the soldiers had raped young girls, old women, even pregnant ones.   • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack on us by the Japanese. Japan thought that if they took out the war ships of the US that we wouldn't be able to attack them. Well they were worng. From their attack we declared war the next day. The Japanese fighter planes and bombing planes released bombs, and torpedoes on our ships, and planes so we could not fight back.

    Germany had invaded France and was planning to take over all of Europe and even Britain. The US, Britain, and France became allies to stop the invasion. Germans knew that the attack was coming, but they didnt know when. On the day of the invasion, paratroopers jumped from planes in the night in pitch darkness landing behind enemy lines to capture and destory. Later bombs were dropped on the Germans, and underground the French cut the telephone lines and drestroyed railroads.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    It was winter when the Germans attacked trying to drive out the Allies out of Europe. This was their final attempt. The Germans plan was good, but the Allies fought better. German had English speaking soldiers drop behind the Alies line dressed as American soldiers. This confused them, but we still fought on. The Battle of the Bulge is most famous for the American soldiers that harassed the German soldiers.

    Operation Thunderclap was when Allies bombed over a German city. The name Operation Thuderclap was a code name for all the raids that the British War Cabinet planned to end the war.

    VE day was the offical end of WWII in Europe. The Germans surrendered unconditionally. However the German government had told their army that the war was officially over, even though Stalin didn't give the news of the surrender. So instead of keeping the secret of the surrender Churchill announced what had really happened. From this a celebration was started and VE Day was now a holiday.

    In the beggining of War World II the atomic bomb wasn't invented yet. Albert Einstein aided the creation of the explosive bomb. By July 16, 1945, the first atomic bomb was created. At this time Germany had already surrendered and WWII was over for Europe. Even though Japan was also defeated, they would not surrender. So we planned an invasion, but the estimated death toll was to much to afford. So instead we dropped th atomic bomb.
