Europe was at war for nine months by May 1940. Britain and France, who declared war on Germany had fought very little. People began to call it the "Phoney War". Thats what they called it, until after the invasion of France, done by Germany.

Operation Barbarossa was just a codename used in attacking the soviet union. On this day, Adolf HItler sent his army to invade the soviet union. This was the biggest German operation in WW2.

Just before 8;00 am, Japanese military flew over American Naval Base, near Honolulu, Hawaii. Japan managed to destroy almost 20 American vessels, eight emormous battle ships, and 300 airplanes. More than 2,000 American soliders died, and 1,000 people were wounded.
