    It was the second Sino-Japanese war. It was a military conflict fought mainly by China and Japan. Japan was trying to over throw China to become a leading superpower becuase they believed they were destined to rule all of Europe. It ended September 9, 1945.
  • German Blitzkrieg

    German Blitzkrieg
    German for "Lightening Warfare". It was a form of warfare that would cause diorganization on enemies. Forst tested in the invasion of Poland, it was a successful tactic in the invasions of Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. It brought down the gates of Moscow in six months and crushed ememy forces. It ended in May of 1940.

    Germany Invasion of Poland
    Hitler decided that if he was going to consume all of Europe he had to first neutralize Poland. So upon signing the non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union, they both agreed to take over Poland together. It ended October 6, 1939.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Code name for Germanys invasion of the Soviet Union who they had just made a non-aggression pact with. The Germans thought that using suprise and Blitzkrieg tactics they could invade the Soviet union and capture the capital in under 8 weeks. While it looked promising, Hilter had underestimated them. It eneded December 5, 1941.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Before the attack the Japanese air force had worked very hard in planning this attack at with that headed towards Hawaii with six carrier ships with over 450 aircrafts. While the detectors did pick up the ships signals it was already too late. They hit the military base with a huge suprise which cause major losses for the US. In the end, 8 battleships and over 200 aircrafts were destroyed. 2,403 servicemen and women were killed along with 68 civilians.
  • Wannsee Conference

    Meeting of Nazi senior officials in Wannsee, Berlin.The meeting was called to ensure the cooperation of the admistrative learders of the different government departments over the final solution of the Jews. The final soulution was basically where most Jews were sent to places in Europe that were occupied by Germany to be deported to Poland and murdered.

    During this time, America would put Japanese-Americans in internment camps. Even if they had never been to Japan or have hardly any relations with Japan, America found them as a threa. They were forced to sell their homes, businesses, and personal items. Then they would be forced on a train and taken to a camp where they would be held until the end of the war.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Brought on by the German invasion of Russia, the Germans were surrounded and destroyed. They then were oushed back and retreated to back through Germany. It ended February 2, 1943.
  • D-Day: Invasion of Normandy

    This is the day that allied forces invaded Northern France by landing on the beaches of Normandy. The purpose of this was to take back parts of Nazi occupied France and push Germany to surrender. The plan was a success and the roads to Paris were opened back up.

    This was a German offensive campaign launched through forests in Wallonia in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg.It was a blitzkrieg Hitler called for meant to split the Allies and destroy their means of supplying themselves, but the Allies fought back hard. It ended January 25, 1945.

    The battle where U.S. Marines landed on the island of Iwo Jima and catpured it from the Japanese Imperial Army. Iwo Jima is an island in the North Pacific, just South of Japan which would later be returned to Japan.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Codename was Operation Iceburg, it was multiple battles fought in the Ryukyu Islands. It was centered on the island Okinawa and was the largest naval assult in Pacifc waters. It was mainly the allied naval forces against Japan. It ended June 22, 1945.

    The day meaning Victory in Europe was the formal acceptance of Nazi Germanys surrender to the Allied powers. This day marked the end of the war and a victory for the Allies. People from all countried in the Allied powers celebrated all day, lining in the streets while the press covered the news.
  • Dropping of the Atomic Bomb

    Dropping of the Atomic Bomb
    The United States along with the United Kingdom signed athe Quebec Aggreement to drop nuclear weapons on Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This was the final stage of the war and was in affect right after the agreement was signed. The bombings kiled at least 129,000 people. The bombing was and effect of the Japanese government not signing a formal surrender agreement. the second bombing happened August 9, 1945, just 3 days after the first.
  • V-J Day

    V-J Day
    On August 15, 1945, the official annoucement came throught that Japan had surrendered and the war was over. It sparked celebrations all across Allied nations. On September 2, a formal surrender agreement was declared. President Truman declared this day V-J day.
