The United Sates cracked the Japanese code and was able to prepare for the surprise attack. After the four days were over Japan lost four carriers, a cruiser, and 292 aircraft, and suffered 2,500 casualties.

    Warsaw GhettoA group of people at the Warsaw Ghetto formed a group which was called Z.O.B (or the Polish name, Zydowska Organizacja Bojowa, which means Jewish Fighting Organization). Seven hundred and fifty fighters fought the heavily armed and well-trained Germans. The ghetto fighters were able to hold out for nearly a month, but on May 16, 1943, the revolt ended.

    Atomic bombAmericans dropped the first atomic bomb, B-29 over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The exploshing wiped out 90% of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people, killing tens of thousands more later on. Three days later a second B-29 on Nagasaki killing an estimated 40,000 people.
