    The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and his wife Sofia by Gavrilo Princip, a teenage assassin and terrorist of Serbian Extremist Group called the Black Hand. Which eventually became the spark that started world war one.

  • Battle of Ypres

    The Canadian that was first introduced into the Western frontlines in February 1915, near Ypres, a small town in Belgium. In April 22,1915 , they were hit by the chlorine gas attack from the german army, they had to urinate on their handkerchief in order to neutralfy the gas. They managed to secure Ypres with more than 6000 casualties.

    The battle of Somme started at July 1 1916. It was intended to be a " Big push" to bring an end to the war. Instead, it became a massacre. WIth a total of 623,907 Allie deaths and 660,000 German Deaths. The Germans called it the blood bath
  • Battle of Vimy Ridge

    The Battle of Vimy Ridge was one of the most significant Canadian battle in World War One. British General Julian Byng, Canadian General Arther Currie lead the full Canadian Corps into capturing the Vimy Ridge by using the new strategy called the creeping barrage. Where the soldier continued to advance as the bombing continued. 40,000 Canadians attacked up the hill, taking more grounds, prisoners and weapons than any other British attempts

  • Battle of Passchendaele

    July 31, 1917 – November 10, 1917.
    Lead by Field Marshall Douglas Haig. The Canadians were ordered to attack the terrible landscape with little strategic use. They successfully captured the spot at 10 November, 1917. With 16,000 out of 20,000 as casualties. Field marshal Douglas Haig surrendered the land a few months later.

    Amiens was a crucial rail centre to move armies and supplies up and down. They hoped that by doing this they would be able to force Frace back into Paris and British Armies to retreat back the English Channel. Therefore splitting the two armies apart.

    Battle of Mons was one of the last battles in WWI to take back the city of Mons for symbolic reasons. It was captured easily but some soldiers were furious to their comrades unnecessary lost for the battle.
