Japanese invasion of China
In 1931 Japan was eager for he vast natural rescources in China. Japan decided to invade China and take Manchuria. It was turned into a independent state called Manchukuo. China went to the league of nations for help so they filed a Lytton report. Japan slowly keep taking China. Untill China finally started fighting back to take back there country. -
German Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg means "lighting war". It was a military technique used by the germans in world war two. This technique was based on speed and surprise. This tactic was based on Alfred von Schlieffen's plan. They used light tanks, planes, and foot soldiers. -
Fall of Paris
This was the day France surrendered. Hitler made sure the papers were signed in the same exact spot as the signing 22 years earlier. -
Pearl Harbor
The pearl harbor attack had two main goals, to destroy american aircraft carriers, and to sink as many capital ships as possible. Japan wanted to neutralize the american fleet's ability to protect air and sea power during the Pacific Basin. 350 army planes were destroyed, 8 battle ships were sunk, and 2,402 people died. -
Battle of Midway
6 months after Pearl Harbor, The United States defeated Japan in one of the most decisive naval battles. Because of major advances in code breaking the U.S. was able to counter Japans planned attack with the few planes they had. The U.S. permanently damaged Japans navy. -
Wannsee Conference
Nazi officals meet discuss the "final plan" of the "jewish question" on this day. Heydrich met with Adolf and 15 others at Wannsee. They were trying to find a way to wip out jewish population. Heydrich was th eman who came up with the idea to transport the jews to concentration camps in Poland to work them to death. The stronger jew would be taken to "gas vans" which were killing 1,000 peoplea day. -
Battle of Stalingrad
Russia considers it to be the greatest battle of their Great Patriotic. This battle stopped the German advance into the soviet union and marked the turnin gpoint of the tide of war in favor of the allies. -
Allied invasion of Italy
The allies began their invasion of axis controlled europe with landing on the island of Sicily off of italy. Montgomerys army came ashore on the southeast part of the island. Within 3 days, 150,000 allied troops were ashore. The allies concured Sicily. -
D-Day (Nomandy Invasion)
D-Day lasted 3 mouths and 156,000 American, British,and Candian forces. Proir to D-Day they had mislead the germans about where they were and where they were going. 4,000 troops died and 1,000 were wounded or missing. By August the Germans had been removed from France. They trapped the Germans and on May 8, 1945 the Nazis had surrendered and Hitler committed suicide a week earlier. -
Battle of Bulge
The Battle of Bulge was the laegest battle fought on the western front during world war two. 90,000 allies died and 100,000 germans died duriing this battle. Germany also lost 700 tanks, and 1,600 aircrafts. Germany wanted to drive a wedge between the America and British armies. The american line was 50 miles long and 70 miles deep. -
Liberation of concentration camps
Allied troops moved across europe against the nazis they begain to find tens of thousnads of concentration camps. These prisoners were suffering fron disease and stavation. The nazis tired to cover up the concentration camps by setting them on fire but the gas chambers were left standing. The soviets liberated the largest concentration camp, Auschwitz in January 1945. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The american invasion of Iwo Jima during world war two was because of the americans need for a base near Japn. Iwo Jima was defended by 23,000 japanese army and naval troops. But the american wipped out the japanese after a month of fighting. -
VE Day
VE Day officially announced the end of world war two in europe. On May 7, 1945 german general Jodi signed the surrender document ending war in europe. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs
During world war two an american B-29 bomber dropped the worlds first deployed atomic bomb over the city of Hiroshima. The explosion wipped out 90% of the city and 80,000 were killed. Tens of thousands more later died from radition exposure. Three days later another bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki killing 40,000 more people. On August 15,1945 Japan announced its surrender in world war two. -
VJ Day
This is the day Japan surrendered unconditionally to the allies affectively ened world war two. August 14 and 15 have now been known as VJ day.
