    German Blitzkrieg

    Blitzkrieg started out as a very effective way of fighting. The Germans would bomb wherever they were going, and then rush in with troops and tanks. This would overwhelm France allowing Germany to take over in about a month.

    Fall of Paris

    The fall of Paris was a pivotal point in the war. Paris was the capital of France, and Germany took control of it in about a month which significantly weakened the French. Luckily most of the French troops that were in France were able to escape to Britain, even though they were almost eradicated at the Battle of Dunkirk.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor was the point where the
    United States officially got involved in the War. Pearl Harbor was a bombing of a Naval/Air force base in Hawaii. Within a couple days war was declared on Japan and the Axis powers.
  • Wansee Conference

    The Wannsee conference was a meeting between Nazi party leaders. They discussed things like "the Final Solution". This was a plan to kill jewish people.
  • Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midway was possibly one of the most important battles in the war. The US needed to expand it's control in the Pacific which Japan has almost completely controlled. If the US didn't to get midway, then they would've never been able to drop the nuclear bombs on japan, ending the war.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    The battle of Stalingrad was between the USSR and Germany, for control of the city of Stalingrad. It is known as possibly the bloodiest war in WWII. It was important because Stalingrad was a big industrial producer for the Soviet Union.
  • D-day

    D-day was a day where allied troops were dropped off by boat in Normandy, troops also parachuted in. This was all to get German-occupied French territory back. Also D-Day just stands for Day-Day.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    The Battle of the Bulge, was an attack by Germany on the western front. German troops tried to sneak up on allies by traveling through Luxembourg, but it didn't work. This was the last German attack.
  • Liberation of Auschwitz(concentration camps)

    This is important because it saved many jewish lives. It also showed us the horrors of the Holocaust, which was separate from the war. Even though we knew about the discrimination against Jewish people we didn't do anything about it, we can even see this nowadays with the Uyghur people in China.

    Battle of Iwo Jima

    The battle of Iwo Jima was a successful offensive by the United States. The US took over the Island and this allowed us to island hop further, taking more islands. This led to the battle of Okinawa.

    Battle of Okinawa

    The US winning the battle of Okinawa was very important. This is because it allowed the US to be able to bomb Mainland Japan. This was one of the last battles before the nuclear bombs were dropped.
  • VE day

    VE day is the day Germany surrendered, which was the official end of the war. This became a holiday which people still celebrate.About a week before is the day that Hitler committed suicide.
  • Postdam Declaration

    This was an attempt at a treaty between Japan and the United states, which would mean Japan surrenders. The Japanese prime minister didn't mind it, but the War minister and General didn't agree to it. This would lead to one of the most devastating events in history.
  • First Use of Nuclear Bombs

    The Fat Man and Little Boy were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They were dropped from the Enola Gay. This was possibly one of the most devastating war inventions ever, this is because if you weren't vaporized, then you have radiation poisoning or can be riddled with cancer depending on distance.

    VJ Day

    VJ Day is the day that Japan surrendered to the US. This was after nuclear bombs were used for the first time. Americans used to celebrate it as a holiday, but it isn't really relevant anymore. The only state to celebrate it is Rhode Island.
