    Many thought that the war would be over by the 1st year as the Germans were too strong but instead it lasted to 1918 due to the fact that the Germans lost the battle of Marne in France. The German soldiers plan was to encircle Paris and capture then the soldiers would be sent to fight in Russia on the eastern front an easy win. But many soldiers were tired from walking 50km and lost 100,000 men to the eastern front and were weak. Ally forces defended Paris for many days and forced them back.

On 16th of march 1915 the first bombing raid was completed by the zeppelin as Germany started to destroy and bomb Britain with this might airship.

    The British government decided to Attack turkey as it would give a spectacular advantage point over Germany and also would take turkey out of WW1. The plan was to send a fleet of british was sent down the Dardanelles to capture it but instead were forced back be artillery and hidden mines . Therefore ANZAC’s were sent to attack the Turkish peninsular known now as ANZAC cove and take down the advantage point and let the ships pass.Unawawre that over 80,000 Turks would be waiting for them.

    The ANZAC’s after 4 and a half months of training in Egypt were sent into battle. At 0200 hours the troops waited anxiously as they rowed to shore but instead the landed in the wrong spot. The soldiers got up out off the boats.But many were mowed down by machine-guns positioned at the top of the cliffs. After a few hours the soldiers finally climbed over the hill and started to dig trenches while still ongoing shots were being fired. Finally the ANZAC’s were on Turkish surface and in trenches.

    Prior to 1915, German subs had a policy as well an international subs all around the world had a policy that you had to order a policy of warning and allowing them time to evacuate ships carrying passengers before you sank the boat. But the Lasitania was sunk without warning killing 120 innocent passengers.

    British troops landed at Sulva bay on the peninsular of Turkey. They were met with little resistance from Turkish soldiers and pushed them back. But once ashore and they had pushed them back they were given no orders on what to do and the Turkish soldiers pushed them back. If orders were given to attack the British soldiers would have been able to link up with the ANZAC’s and the war would of ended up differently.

    ANZAC soldiers attacked and charged at the Turkish soldiers in their trenchers in hope to push them back and to hopefully capture their main goal Lone Pine Ridge. The ANZAC’s were inexperienced soldiers but fought with great courage. They held this advantage point as well as Chunkuc Bair for 3 days before Turkish soldiers forced them back

    Allies began to fire and bombard German trenches for 2 days straight. To try and destroy their trenches and the wire above trenches but the guns failed as the guns weren’t powerful enough and the failed and didn’t work. On the 25 of September in the early morning the British troops went over the edge and into no-man’s land, the losses were devastating with the German machine guns mowing down rows of troops. But British soldiers were able to capture the town of Loos in France.

    1,500 allied guns fired at German Trenches to try and soften up the trenchers and destroy the barbed wire on the front of their trenchers. But the Guns weren’t powerful enough and many shells fell short and this lasted for many days. British soldiers were sent to over the trenchers and into no-man’s land to kill the Germans but the trenchers were still intact and the German soldiers and the machine guns mowed down the British troops.This was the first battle that tanks were used in.

    When war erupted in 1914 the U.S.A attempted to remain neutral as it believed in the rights of neutral states. But in spite of this U.S did enter the war due to several events. Pro-British propaganda was happening in the U.S, as well as Britain and the U.S was seen as ‘cultural brothers’. Also in 1915 German subs sunk the Lusitania without warning and a year later sunk the Sussex (over 200 people died) which was against basic ocean laws. Because of these action the U.S joined the war in 1917.

    Allies began a 15 day artillery barrage against German trenches with over 4,000,000 shots fired over the 15 days. British soldiers were sent over the edge and into no-man’s land early morning and were expected to gain over 4,000m, but instead lost they lost over 2,700 men and were pushed back .

    Canadian troops launched an attack on the village of Passchendaele, which was situated on higher ground and a great advantage point and would also mean that the allies would have a dry spot to spend winter. That, day early morning Canadian troops were sent over the top and into no-man’s land. The fighting was tough and fierce but after a day they secured the ridge only 4 days later to abandon it as the allied forces called off the campaign.

    On 20th of November in Cambrai, France a 378 massed tank attack and artillery attack started to bombard German trenchers supported by another 289 aircraft to try and capture northern France. The German troops were taken by surprise and were forced back. British soldiers captured Cambrai in northern France but at a toll. As they only had 179 tanks as they lost 199 tanks. But German soldiers retook Cambrai 10 day later.
