    On June 29 th 1919 the treaty of Versailles was signed. This is the contract that finished World War One. A part of the treaty was called the guilt cause it said that Germany would take blame for World War One and not be violent. Some people think that the treaty was the cause of World War Two. Although there are many different causes.
  • Mussolini takes power in Italy

    Mussolini takes power in Italy
    In 1922 an Italian dictator Benito Mussolini became prime minister of Italy. After taking over Lybia Ethiopia Somalia and Albania he had power over most of the Mediterranean area. He became allies with Hitler. Mussolini used Germany's support to become more powerful. He died in 1945.

    On October 29th 1929 the stock market crashed. This is most commonly know as the Great Depression. Many people lost all of there money and had to send away their children and move out of their homes. Countries unable to support their people started wars. In 1941 the depression was over
  • Japan invades Manchuria

    Japan invades Manchuria
    On September 18th 1931 Japan started an attack on Manchuria. In only a couple days Japan had taken over many parts of South Manchuria. This was the result of the depression and Japan not having enough natural resources to support their growing population. Japan wanted to take their natural resources and living space by force. After Japan moved on to China.
  • Hitler Became Chancellor of Germany

    On January 30th 1933 Hitler became the chancellor of Germany. He accomplished this when President Paul von Hindenburg named him the leader of the Nazi party. As soon as Hitler became chancellor he ordered more police and new security. There was not much anyone could do to stop him. That is how he became so powerful.
  • Remilitarization of the Rhineland

    On March 7th 1936 Hitler reoccupied the Rhineland. hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles when he sent his men into the rhineland. He also violated the Locarno Pact that confirmed the nation's boundaries. Breaking these contracts showed that Hitler did not care. He kept invading countries and eventually started world war two.
  • Spanish civil war

    On July 18th 1936 the Spanish civil war had started. There were riots in the streets all over Spain. The rebels had captured most of Spain Morocco and some main cities in the south. Hitler agreed to help the and with Italy and Germany being allies they had to help too. Eventually the republicans surrendered.
  • Rome Berlin axis

    On October 25th 1936 the Rome Berlin axis was signed. This was the linking of two countries. Italy and Germany had this deal in case of war where they had to be allies. Both countries had fascist leader. The agreement eventual included Japan.
  • Munich conference

    The Munich conference occurred on September 30th 1938. Germany Great Britain France and Italy had a conference to agree upon and annexation of the Sudetenland in wester Czechoslovakia. Germany took power over Austria and started thinking about doing the same to Czechoslovakia. When they did Britain France and Italy were not happy. Germany had broken the Munich agreement.
  • Anschluss

    On March 12th 1938 Hitler announced Anschluss with Austria. Austria wanted to join Germany they thought it would be good for them but they did not like how Hitler was an authoritarian. That did not want to Anschluss. Germany wanted to have more Nazis in Austria so he gave them leader positions. Hitler had eventually forced his way in.
  • Germany Invades Czechoslovakia

    On March 15th 1939 Hitler and his soldiers invaded and occupied Czechoslovakia. Hitler told the British Prime Minister that the last place he would invade was Sudetenland but it was really just the start. The German soldiers started to invade Czechoslovakia by causing a problem within the country and having Hitler come in and fix it. This worked very well. Germany continued invading countries so they could be more powerful.
  • The Soviet-Nazi Pact

    On August 23rd, 1939, Nazi-Germany and the Soviet Union met and signed the Soviet-Nazi pact. This pact meant that the countries could not attack each other. World War One was a two front war which split germany's forces. Hitler wanted World War Two to be a one front war. That is why he signed the pact.
  • The Invasion of Poland

    At 4:45 am on September 1st, 1939, about 1.5 million German soldiers invaded Poland along the 1,750 mile border. At the same time they used warships to invade Poland from the Baltic sea. Hitler said that the invasion was defence. Although, Britain and France did not believe him. On September 3rd, 1939, World War Two was started.

    On September 3rd 1939 Britain declared war on Germany. The prime minister of Britain Neville chamberlain took charge. He told Germany that unless they stopped their attack on Poland the war between them would not stop. Germany didn't care and kept on attacking Poland. World War Two was started.
  • Canada Enters the War

    On September 10th 1939 Canada entered World War Two. Canada's role was to defend the British isles. It was also responsible for going to Hong Kong to meet the Japanese invasion. One Tragic battle for Canada was the Ortona and Monte Cassion in 1944. Canada lost almost 6000 lives.
