  • Japanese Invasion of China

    LinkThis was known as the second Seno-Japanese war. The war was fought between the Republic of China and the Empire of Japan. On july 7,1937, Chinese and Japanese troops fired at eachother in the Lugou bridge. Japan wated to secure access to raw material reserves and other economic resources.
  • German Blitzkrieg

    LinkThe German Blitzkrieg was a military tactic used to disorganise enemy forces by the use of mobile forces and concentrated firepower. It was used in many of the German attacks. It was successfully used in the invasion of France, Belguim, and the Netherlands in 1940.
  • Germany Invasion of Poland

    LinkAt 4:45 a.m. around 1.5 million German troops invade Poland all along its 1,750-mile border. Simultaneously, the Germany bombed Polish airfields, and German warships and U-boats attacked Polish naval forces. Adolf Hitler claimed the massive invasion was a defensive action, but the other countries didn't believe them, so it started WW2.
  • Fall of Paris

    linkThis was the day that German troops invaded Paris France. By the time German tanks came, 2 million paris residents had already fled the city. Eventually Canadian troops fled through France and helped them out.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    linkOperation Barbarossa was the German invasion of the Soviet Union. German commanders wanted to take over the capital city of Moscow, but Hitler wanted to push for their industrial capacities. Germany won by economic strangle, but Hitler was also disappointed tha so many people escaped the war. Germany wanted to take over the Soviet Union because he wanted Germany to be recognised as a new German Empire.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Japan Bombed all of Pearl Harbor leaving the United States devestated. Luckily, the United States moved out a bunch of their ships a few days before the attack, so they werent bombed. Japan came in three waves targeting specific areas in each wave. Japan also had the element of surprise which helped them out with a huge victory. Japan bombed us to show that they were dominant and they they had power and to take out some of our ships.
  • Wannsee Conference

    linkHigh ranking Nazi party and German officials gathered at a place near Wannasee to discuss and coordinate the final solution of the jewish question. Final Solution was codename for the complete destruction of European Jews. Heydrich said that almost 1100000 jews would be kiled under the final solution.
  • The Battle of Midway

    This was a battle between America and Japan. Japan attacked Midway which was a U.S. island that they wanted to they could refuel their planes at that place . Japans messages were decoded though so they no longer had the upper hand. The United States eventually ended up winning this war.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    linkIn this battle, Germany, fought the Soviet Union in the city of Stalingrad. This battle was happening in somewhat close range. Both sides poured troops into the city, but eventually the Soviet Union won. Germany had to withdraw troops from the west in order to replace the huge amount of people they lost.
  • Operation Gommorah

    linkBritian and the United States bomb Hamburg Germany. They dropped around 2300 tons of incendiary bombs in just a couple hours. The raids continued until November, and Britian eventually dropped over 9000 tons of explosives killing over 30000 people. They did this to sort of get back at Germany for bombing London, and the outcome was great for Britian and the United States. It left Hitler devestated.
  • Allied Invasion of Italy

    The allies began their invasion by landing on the island of sicily and in three days, they had 150,000 troops in Italy. They recieved little resistance from Sicilian troops at all. Allies ended making a big push into Italy.
  • D-Day ( Invasion of Normandy)

    linkMore than 160000 allied troops fought against Germany on a 50 mile stretch of coastline that was heavily protected in Normandy France. More than 5000 ships and 13000 aircrafts were deployed to join the fight and by then end of the day 9000 allies were killed, but we did gain a foot hold in Europe. The 9000 people sacrificed their lives so 100000 more allied men could take out Germanys forces in Europe.
  • Liberation of Concentration Camps

    linkThe liberation of concentration camps happened when allied forces swept through Germany. They found many concentration camps and freed a bunch of the Jews there. Germany tried to hide all the murdering by burning the place, but they left the gas chambers there. Thousands of jews were liberated and saved.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    linkThe purpose was for Hitler to make one more major offenseive. He wanted to break up the allies and cut off their forces. The result was the allies ended up winning even though they were completely caught off guard.
  • Operation Thunderclap

    linkThe plan was for the cities of Berlin, Dresden, Chemnitz, and Liepzig to get heavily bombed because they wanted to shatter German morale.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    linkThe battle happened because Americans needed a base of the Japanese coast for their planes to land. The United States attacked Japan soldiers in three different divisions. The japan troops were hiding in tunnels, holes, dugouts and other stuff like that which made them very hard to bomb and fight. The U.S. ended up winning the battle but ended up with 5900 dead and 17400 wounded.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    linkThe United States attacked this place because they needed an air base for their attack on the main part of Japan. The allies attacked a chain of islands for 82 days. The allies ended up winning, and got their air base.
  • VE Day

    linkVE Day was the day Great Britian and the United States both celebrated victory in Europe. They celebrated because German troops finally laid down their weapons and surrendered. Little battles continued for the next few days but Russia eventually took 2 million prisoners captive and ended most of it.
  • Dropping of the Atomic Bombs

    linkOn this day the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima killing around 80000 people. Three days later, aother bomb was dropped on Nagasaki klling around 40000 people. The result was Japan surrendering and ending world war two. The U.S. did this so it woulf finally end the war and save more American lives in the end. This also might have been the start of the cold war too.
  • V-J day

    linkThis was the day that America had victory over Japan. Japan had officially surrendered and completely ended world war two.
