  • Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact

    Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact
    Shortly before WWII Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed a nonagression pact. This was a pact not to have war against eachother for the next ten years. German Chancellor used this to invade Poland without being stopped. The pact helped figure out hoe to divide western Europe. The pact ended in 1941 when Germany invaded the Soviet Union.

    Germany invades Poland
    In 1939 Poland was invaded by Germany. There were strikes from the air and 1.5 million troops. They attempted to regain lost territory. It was also an attempt for Hitler to rule Poland. He said it was in defense but that didn't convince everyone.
  • Fall of Paris

    Fall of Paris
    The Battle of France otherwise known as the Fall of France was when germany invaded them. After nine manths of war in after declaring war they had seen little actual action. It was known as the "Phoney War". On June 14, 1940 the Germans invaded. After just four days they had completely broke through any and all of the french lines.

    Operation Barbarossa
    On June 22, 1941 Adolf Hitler sent an invasion westward. Many would say this was the turning point in the war. This caused Germany to to fight a two-front war against a coalition possessing far superior resources. The Germans had underestimated their opponent. They sent over 150 divisions to conquer the area. The loss took a devastating toll on the germans.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On December 7, 1941 hundreds of Japanese fighter planes flew in and attacked American naval base at Pearl Harbor. This lasted only two hours but took a gigantic toll. They destroyed 20 vessels and over 300 airplanes. More than 2,000 soldiers were killed and 1,000 were injured. This was brutal but they had been on the brink of war for several decades.

    Wannsee Conference
    The Nazis referred to the reason for the meeting, as the Jewish Question. They got together for a simple plan that would end with a “final solution to the Jewish question” in Europe. There were many ways discussed to solve the problem. Heydrich proposed a plan to send them to concentration camps. Months later the plan was executed and they killed over 1,000 people a day there.
  • Bataan Deathmarch

    Bataan Deathmarch
    On April 9, 1942 after the U.S surrender the Japanese forced troops on a 65-mile march to prison camps. Over 75,000 Filipino and American troops on Bataan were forced to take on this march. They were under very harsh treatment in the intense heat. Most were murdered if they could not continue, and others suffered from being beat, starvation, and dehydration. It is believed that thousands died in this march.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    After six months from Pearl Harbor the United States defeated Japan in a naval battle.The U.S was able to counter Japan's plan to attack one of the remainingaircraft carriers. this brought damage on the Japanese Navy. The Japanese wanted to destroy the surviving aircraft carriers that had escaped destruction at Pearl Harbor. The interception of Japanese codes enabled American troops to understand what they were going to do.
  • Battle of Stalingrand

    Battle of Stalingrand
    This was a succesful soviet defense in Stalingrand. It stopped the Germans from entering into the Soviet Union and marked the turning of war in favor of the Allies. This was succesful but there were over two million deaths. The Germans expected a simple sweep but the Soviets had built up their defense. About 150,000 Germans had died in the fighting. They finally surrendered with 91,000 men left.
  • Operation Gomorrah

    Operation Gomorrah
    Britain had suffered the deaths of 167 civilians as a result of German bombing raids in July. As a result of this British aircraft drop 2,300 tons of incendiary bombs on Hamburg on July 24. Over 1,500 German civilians were killed when Britain raided. They did lose 12 aircrafts. The attacks continued until November of that year.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    The battle of Normandy resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. The battle began June 6, 1944 and is known as D-Day. 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches. This was a 50-mile stretch of heavily fortified beach. By August 1944, all of northern France had been 'freed'.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The invasion of Iwo jima made the need for a base near the Japanese coast. Americans landed on the base in Februaryof 1945. 23,000 Japanese army and navy troops defended Iwo Jima. After about a month of battle the marines wiped out the defending forces. American losses were about 5,900 dead and 17,400 wounded
