    In the 1930's China was not a strong country and divided in many ways.During this time, Japan tried to take some of its territorys. In 1937, the conflicts turned into a war that became known as the Marco Polo Bridge Incident. This fighting sparked a full-blown conflict, the Second Sino-Japanese War.

    Blitzkrieg was thought to be a new form of warfare but was really just a German word for how they used speed, troop movement and coordination to push themselves through the weak spots of the enemy to get inside their lines and do the most damage. It was considered to work so well because of the surprise factor.     Germany and its allies invaded the Soviet Union with over 4 million troops in a surprise attack. In a short amount of time, the Germans had moved over 200 miles into Soviet territory and killed hundreds of thousands while doing it.The Germans tried to advance and take over Moscow, but failed mainly due to the horrible weather conditions the Soviet's were used to .The Germans lost alot of soldiers by attacking at this time of the year.     In 1941 Japan surprised the U.S.military by attacking Pearl Harbor, Hawaii,and in a short amount of time destroyed most of the U.S. fleet of battleships. The U.S. knew the war was coming and President Roosevelt knew the Japanese hated Americans, they just didn't expect it to happen at Pearl Harbor.     AFter attcking the U.S. at Pearl Harbor, Japan invaded the Philippines.In a short amount of time, they took over the city of Manila.U.S. and Filipino troops fought hard for three months but finally surrendered, due to the amount of disease and starving soldiers.The Japanese forced the US/Filipino soldiers to walk to a prison camp in groups, and this became known as the Bataan Death March.The walk itself took 5 days to make and many died along the way. http://www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii/b

    The Battle of Stalingrad began in July of 1942, and ended in February, 1943.One of Hitlers goals was to take over some oil fields, and was angry about his forces not making better advances in Moscow. The Soviet and German forces fought hard in the streets for several weeks trying to gain control over the city. By October, the Germans had taken over 90% of the city. By December , the Soviets began driving the Germans back on a wide front , which ended all German hopes for relieving Stalingrad.

The explosin wiped put 90% of the city and killed nearly 80,000 people. Then days later another B-29 bomber dropped another one on nagaski killing an estimated 40,000 people.
