  • Japanese Invade China

The Japanese claimed that the Chinese troops fired first, causing them to invade China. Japan used Manchuria as their base. This is where Japan sent their troops out from. The effects and impact this attack on China caused were terrible. Five months after the start of the war, one million Chinese people were under the control of Japan. Sixty million people also became homeless.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. It took Germany just a couple weeks to defeat Poland. The invasion occured in Warsaw, which is also where the Polish surrendered on September 27. Germany claimed they attacked Poland for their own defense, however, if Germany succeeded, like they did, it would give the Germans more land and "living space".

    The word blitzkrieg comes from the German word which means lighting war. Blitzkrieg is a technique using movable forces, as well as, firepower to disorganize the enemy army, to invade. The Germans tried out the blitzkrieg method in Poland, before they used it in the invasion of Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. This event occured in order for Germany to invade Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. The effects of this were devistating.

    On June 22, 1941, Hitler sent his amry east, to invade the Soviet Union. Three different groups, each containing over three million German soldiers, 150 different divisions, along with three thousand tanks rammed into Soviet Union territory. Operation Barbossa started because Hitler wanted to gain control of the Soviet Union. The effects of this operation included, over 600,000 people being taken prisoner, also horrible weather.
  • Pearl Harbor

The attack on Pearl Harbor was a complete surprise. It lasted 2 hours. In those 2 hours, they destroyed almost 20 American naval vessels, which included 8 huge battleships, as well as, 200 airplanes. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because the U.S. had issued an embargo, which meant Japan couldn't trade with other countries including the U.S. The aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack was horrible.

    On January 20, 1942, 15 of the highest ranking Nazi and German officials, got together in Wannsee, to speak about how they were going to execute, what they called, the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question." This conference occured because the Nazi Party and the German government officials had to discuss they were going to utterly destroy the European Jews. At this meeting it was decided that the annihalation of Jews was going to begin. The aftermath was that the extinction of Jews began.

The aftermath of this operation was that the city of Hamburg was destroyed.

Montgomery's 8th army invaded Italy becaue Italy was part of the Axis forces. Also because, Italy was allies with Germany. Italy's government agreed to surrender. After the invasion, and the battle was over, the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini was rescued from the prison where he was being held. He was rescued by the German commandos. After he was rescued, Mussolini was assigned to be the leader of the Nazi puppet state in Italy.

The result of this invasion was not only the end for Germans, but also for Hitler.

However, Germany stopped America by hitting them with hundreds of tanks, as well as, hundreds of thousands of German troops. The German front was stopped by the Americans. This battle was intended to split British and U.S. forces in northern France. The result of this battle was the Germans lost. The Germans lost so many soldiers and equipment, they couldn't launch any more attacks.
  • Operation Thunderclap

It was said that the attack would cause 220,000 casualties with 110,000 people being killed. The plan was never executed because they decided the plan would likely not work. The plan was considered again in early 1945, and they decided to not go through with it. They planned smaller attacks on cities across the Eastern Front.

Three U.S. Marine divisions landed on the island. The Island was being defended by 23,000 Japanese soldiers. Even with the harsh conditions the U.S. was able to defeat the Japanese. The invasion happened because a place for B-29 bombers over Japan could land without having to return to the Marianas, as well as, for a base for escort fighters who would help out with the bombings.

The aftermath of this battle was that the U.S. lost and hundreds of thousands of American troops died.

When the U.S. dropped the bomb on Japan it officially ended World War 2, but it also started the Cold War. The U.S. dropped the bomb on Japan because it would end the war quickly, rather than having to invade Japan, which would eventually result in American casualties. The effect was that the city of Hiroshoma was destroyed, the bomb was equivalent of 15,000 tons of TNT. This atomic bomb killed 80,000 people.
