Germany estimated the wrong amount of divisions that Russia had and caused failure to follow their plan, failure of German troops to defeat Soveit forces caused a crucial point in war. The Soviet Union had re-occupied Lithuania and deported over 350000 Lithuanians.

    Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The barrage lasted just two hours, but it was devastating: The Japanese managed to destroy nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight enormous battleships, and more than 300 airplanes. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded. The day after the assault, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan.

    After the U.S. surrender of the Bataan Peninsula on the main Philippine Island of Luzon to the japanese during World War II about 75,000 american and filipino troops on baataan were forced to walk through prision camps. They were forced to march 65 miles through the prison camps while the heat and harsh Japanese guards treated them horrible. Thousands had died and this became nown as the Bataan Death March. About 1000 American soldiers died and over 5,000 Filipino soldiers.

This war came to a halt when Hitler comitted suicide and his throne was handed off to his succussor. This affected Germany morally with the holocaust.

The atomic bomb was used to bring the war to a quick end. an American droped a 5 ton bomb that killed 80,000 on August 6, 1945 in the Japanese city of Hiroshima. more people had died after that due to radiation and wounds. Three days later another bomb dropped in Nagasaki killing 40,000 people. Japan surrendered a few days after he atomic bombs.
