    The fisrt concentration camp was at Dachau and Oranienburg. The Holocaust started before the camps though. The Jews were not sent to camps until 1938. The fisrt extermination camp was Chelmno, which was the fisrt mass gassing began 8 December 1941.

    The whole world was in shock when they suddenly found out that Russia and Germany both signed a 'non-aggression act'. They made many secerets about dividing the eastern Europe countries. They planned to invade and take over. Poland was the first one on the list.

    Because Germany and Russia signed the non aggression act and Poland was first on the list, they followed through and invaded. Many of the people fled for the sake of their lives (mainly the jewish people). THey didn't know an exact destination but they ran. 300,000 Jewish refugees were trapped and had nowhere to go. Thats when the seceret police came into play.

    The Germans conquered a few nations and then came the time to invade Poland. Britain and France promised Poland protection if they ever had problems with the Germans. When Germany invaded Poland, Britain and France had no other choice but to declare war on Germany.

    Hitler was angry with what had Britain and France had done by declaring war on Germany. In reaction to that he wanted his land back from his allies. The Germans bombed Britains air bases so when they did invade there would be no British air support.

    United States devised a plan to help them. they made the Lend-Lease. This was to assist the nations that were fighting the Axis powers (Germany, Japan and Italy). It provided that the president could ship weapons, food, or equipment to any country whose struggle against the Axis assisted U.S. defense.

    This was the largest German military force during the time of World War II. Hitler wanted to rule the world so he would eventually have to take out Russia. Even though they had signed the non- aggression pact, Hitler broke that deal and invaded anyway. Russia also had the largest oil fields and wanted that. During that time, without the Soviet Union, Germany was the most powerful nation.

    This was the day that the Last of the German army surrendered at Staligrad. Many people say that the only reason that Hitler attacked Stalingrad was because of the name Joseph Stalin. This battle was fought in the winter and the men were trapped by the 6th army. The men were trapped and low on food, water, warmth and amunition.

    This was the largest seaborne invasion in HIstory. There were three million troops that crossed the English Channel from England to Normandy and occupied to France. Many nations participated in the invasion: Australia, Canada, Belgium, France, Czechoslovakia, Greece, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

    Just before Europe had drawn to a close, Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill (Great Britain), and Joseph Stalin (USSR) agreed to meet and discuss war strategy and issues that would affect the postwar world. Stalin proposed the Black Sea resort of Yalta would be a good place to meet. Roosevelt agreed to Stalin's request. Stalin was in the strongest position as Soviet troops were a mere forty miles from Berlin

    German collapse came after the meeting of the Western and Russian armies at Torgau in Saxony, and after Hitler's death amid the ruins of Berlin, which was falling to the Russians. The unconditional surrender of Germany was signed and Europe was able to celebrate!
