    Australian Football Is Born
    Aussie rules football was first started in the 1800's when British and Irish fleets arrived in Australia. They wanted to challlenge each other in a sporting battle to see which nation was superior. However the British refused to play Ireland's sport of Gaelic football, and the Irish refused to play Britain's rugby. So comittees from both nations decided to make up a game consisting of both sets of rules and in 1859 the official rules were written and signed by both parties.

    Australian Natives Association Is Founded
    The Australian Native's Society was founded in the purpose of providing better facilities for education and recreational facilities for native Australians. After the British settlement in in 1788 native Aboriginals were not considered citizens if their own land, this group madegreat strides in the effort to gain their rights back. But their primary focus was to provide a better life given the conditions they were in.

    The ashes series was first started in August 1882 when Engand lost their first ever test match to Austrlaia. The fact that a team as great as Enland's could be defeated by a mere colony shcoked both nations equally and in the weeks following many newspapers and magazines posted article of the death of England's cricket pride.     Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie Ferdinand were killed by a Serb nationalist named Gavrilo Princip, in Sarajevo. This started a chain of events eventually leading to ‘The great war’.

    Battle Of The Somme
    During the battle of the Somme in 1916, 1 . 1 million lives were lost as the French-British troops attempted to relieve the pressure from the Germans during the battle of Verdun. The battle tactics from the British Commander, General Sir Douglas Haigs. His plan was to keep the war going for as long as possible and slowly wear away at the Germans. But this lead to a lot more deaths than necessary and not much ground to be made. In two years they pushed the Germans back about two miles.
