    The Campaign of Gallipoli: 25th April 1915 – 9th January 1916

    The Campaign of Gallipoli took place in Gallipoli Peninsula. The Gallipoli campaign was an attack by England and France against the Ottoman Empire. Soldiers from Australia, New Zealand, India and Canada aided the forces from the United Kingdom. The Ottomans had support from Austria-Hungary and Germany. During the ten-month period 416,809 Anzacs enlisted of whom more than 60,000 were killed and 156,000 wounded, gassed or taken prisoner.

    The Battle of Somme: 1st July 1916 – 18th November 1916

    The Battle of Somme was one of the largest battles of the First World War. Australian divisions suffered 23,000 casualties. Of these 6,800 men were killed or died of wounds. For five months, the British and French armies fought the Germans in a brutal battle of attrition.

    The Battle of Arras (Bullecourt): 9th April 1917 – 16th May 1917

    The Battle of Arras was a British (Australia) offensive on the Western Front. British troops attacked German defences neat the French City of Arras on the Western Front. In a month, Australians suffered over 3300 casualties, 1170 were taken prisoner and over 2000 men were killed.

    The Battle of Messines: 7th June 1917 – 14th June 1917

    The Battle of Messines was one of the many short wars; a battle between Britain (Australia) and Germany. On the 6th of June day, out of the seven-day period, the Germans launched a gas attack on the British Army, causing over 2000 Australian casualties.

    The Battle of Beersheba: 31st October 1917

    The Battle of Beersheba was fought when the Expeditionary Force attacked and captured the Yildirim Group garrison. The British and The Australians fought against the Egyptians for one day, causing thirty-one killed, thirty-six wounded and over seven-hundred men captured.

    The Second battle of Villers Bretonneux: 24th April 1918 – 27th April 1918

    The Second Battle of Villers Bretonneux lasted for two days, after the Germans captured the town of Villers Bretonneux on the morning 24th April, then Britain launched a counter-attack that same night. During the two-day period, Australian causalities were more than 2400. France and Australia were fighting against Germany in a small but horrific battle that cost many lives.
