This battle alone was one of the worst in British history. The French went on the offensive and killed over 40 thousand on the First day. Some can argue that this was the bloodiest war of the British and the French. -

United States joined the War because of the German attack. When the Germans kept sinking ships of food with submarines that is when the U.S. had enough. The Germans expected it to happen but not so early so the Germans lost the war. -

This is when the war was truely ended with the signing of a treaty. Before this there was really no end because both sides still threatend war. When the treaty of Versailles it was a true ending and a relief. -
Aftermath
No other war changed the state of a map like WWI did. There was 4 territories that were lost so other people had to take over. The French and the German armies were hit hard and were barley making it.
