  • The Nazis Commit Genocide

    The Nazis Commit Genocide
    On January 30th marked the day of the Shoah other known as the Holocaust. The Jewish were put in concentration camps where they were forced to do work. Many of the Jewish people died from starvation, disease, overwork, and the harsh elements just to name a few. By the time the Halocaust ended about six million Jews and six million other people were killed. Source: History book page 574
  • Japanese invasion of China

    Japanese invasion of China
    Japanese invaded China. Japan's invasion of China was due essentially to Japan's desire to be an imperial power. Japanese also needed resources which was another reason that they invaded China. As a result the Japanese took over all of the key ports and was estimated that China had 10 to 20 million casualties from guerrilla warfare.

    Nazi-Soviet Pact
    The Nazi-Soviet Pact was a nonaggression pact that bound Hitler and Stalin to peaceful relations. Hitler wanted a free hand in Poland so on September 1, 1939 German forces invaded Poland and Stalin attacked the East. Which was the start of World War ll. Source: History book page 567

    German Blitzkrieg
    Blitzkrieg is a military tactic called "Lightning war." Blitzkrieg required the concentration of offensive weapons. Poland was the first country to be attacked with blitzkrieg. Within a month Poland ceased to exist. Source: History book page 568.
  • German Invasion of Poland

    German Invasion of Poland
    Germany signed a nonagression pact with Poland in January 1934. The Polish army was defeated within weeks of the invasion. From East Prussia and Germany in the north and Silesia and Slovakia in the south, German units, with more than 2,000 tanks and over 1,000 planes, broke through Polish defenses along the border and advanced on Warsaw in a massive encirclement attack.
  • France Falls

    France Falls
    On this day the German forces headed south toward Paris. Italy declared war on France and attacked from the south. France surrendered. On June 22, 1940 forced the French to to sign the surrender documents. Source: History book page 569.
  • The Miracle of Dunkirk

    The Miracle of Dunkirk
    On this day German forces surprised the French and British by attacking through the Ardennes Forest in Belgium. The British retreated but were soon trapped between the Nazi army and the English Channel. The British sent available naval vessels and saved more than 300,000 troops and brought them back to Britain. Source: History book page 569

    Operation Sea Lion
    Operation Sea Lion was the invasion of Britain. Hitler launched massive air strikes against the island nation. For a month they battled. Then the Germans changed their tactic and started bombing London and other cities. Hitler failed to take Britain. Source: History book page 569

    Germany's siege of Leningrad
    On September 8th began the siege for Leningrad. More than a million Leningraders died during the siege but the city did not fall to Germans.Stalin urged Britain to open a second front in western Europe but Churchill could no offer my real help.   • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On December 7, 1941, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor. It lasted 2 hours.The Japanese destroyed around 20 naval vessels including 8 enormous battle ships and more than 300 planes. The day after President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan.Three days later Italy and Germany declared war on the United States. A few years later the United States joined the war.   • Germans Defeated at Stalingrad

    Germans Defeated at Stalingrad
    Hitler was determined to capture Stalin's namesake city, but Stalin was equally determined to defend it. The Germans surrounded Stalingrad. Trapped without food or ammunition and with no hope of rescue as winter came. In November, the Soviets encircled their attackers and later in January the German commander surrendered.   • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    On April 9th, 1942 the Japanese had taken over the Philippines. It killed several hundred American solders and as many as 10,000 Filipino soldiers during a 65 mile Bataan Death March. Many Filipino civillians risked and sometimes lost their lives trying to give the captives food and water on the march. Source: History book page 587
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    On June 6th, 1944 more than 160,000 Allied troops landed on France's coastline. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the invasion on D-Day.     Battle of the Bulge

  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    The Yalta Conference was a conference where Chuchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin agreed that the Soviet Union would enter the war after Germany's surrender. In return, Churchill and Roosevelt promised Stalin that the that he could have the southern Sakhalin Island, the Kuril Islands and an occupation zone in Korea. They also agreed that Germany would be divided into four zones. Source: History book page 583
  • VE-Day

    VE-Day
    VE-Day was the day of the "Victory in Europe. When the Soviet Union troops fought there way to Berlin, Hitler commited suicide in his underground bunker and on May 7th Germany surrendered. Source: History book on page 586
  • Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima

    Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima
    America asked Japan to surrender or we would drop the atomic bomb. They declined the off so on August 6th, 1945, an american bomber dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. It killed 80,000 people instantly but then would kill tens of thousands more due to the exposure of radiation exposure.     Atomic bomb on Nagasaki
    After we dropped the bomb on Hiroshima we asked Japan to surrender. They declined the offer again so we dropped the 2nd atomic bomb on Nagasaki killing an estimated 40,000 people.
