    German Blitzkrieg

    Blitzkrieg is german for lightening warfare. It first began on September of 1939 with the german invasion of Poland. then in April of 1940 with the invasion of Denmark and Norway. Then in May 1940 Germany invaded Belgium, The Netherlands, Lexembourg, and France.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Japan attacked a United States harbor in Hawaii called Pearl Harbor. It was a surprise attack, The U.S. didn't see it coming. Three famous American battleships were lost that day. The USS Arizona, USS Utah, and the USS Oklahoma.
  • Wannsee Conference

    High ranking Nazi and German gov. officials got togetehr at a villa in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee to talk and coordinate
  • Batlle of Stalingrad

    The battle of Stalingrad was fought between Germany and Russia. Germany wanted to capture the city and crush the Soviet Union. In Februrary 2, 1943, the Soviets pushed the Germans back and won the battle.
  • D-Day (Normandy Invasion)

    On June 6, 1944, British, Canadian, and American forces stormed the beaches of Normandy France. The three beaches were Sword, Gold, Juno, Utah, and Omaha. Omaha was the bloodiest beach. Paratroopers also were part of D-Day, they dropped in behind the beaches and due to heavy equipment many drowned. In all there was 2,700 British casualties, 946 Canadian casualties, and 6,603 American casualties.
  • Liberation of concentation camps

    On July 23, 1944 Soviet soldiers found and liberated the first concentration camp. There were many exhausted, sick, skinny, hungry prisioners.

    Battle of The Bulge

    The Germans were not doing well at this point in World War II. So they came together for one final attack against the allied forces. Germany massed so forces together and attacked the allied lines and pushed the allies back. German cammandos wearing stolen U.S. uniforms in the American lines also attacked the U.S.

    Battle of Iwo Jima

    American forces shelled and bombed the island of Iwo Jima. Even though they shelled and bombed the island there was still a large amount of Japanese forces on the island. American forces stormed the beaches February 19, 1945 and kept on fighting. The Japanese had underground tunnels and cave networks on the island that they used to defend the island. They eventually won the island on March 26, 1945.

    VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day. It's when the allies won the war in europe. However the war in Japan is still going on at the time.
  • Dropping the atomic bombs

    On August 6, 1945, the future of warfare changed for ever. The Atomic bomb was dropped in Hiroshima, instantly killing about 80,000 people. The Atomic Bomb destroyed the whole city. Three days later another one was dropped on Nagasaki killing about 40,000 people.
  • VJ Day

    VJ Day is Victory in Japan Day. It celebrates the day Japan surrendered to the United States of America. It is the day World War II ended as well.
