    The Japanese-China war started in July 1937. Japanese said that China was firing on the troops at the Marco Polo Bridge in Beijing. The Japanese slowly took over East China and all major ports. This then started the war in the Pacific.

    Japanesse and Chinesse troops begain to have tension when a m ilitary excersise was held in now Bejing. Chinesse at Nanking now known as Nanjing were being burried alive, raped and murdered by the Japanesse. The capital of Nanking quickly fell.

    In the Sino-Japanese war, Nanking the capital of China fell to Japanese control. Japanese killed thousands of men and woman who were innocent civilins. People were buried alive, mutilated, and forced into rape.

    The German-Soviet Pact of August 1939, stated that Poland was to be split between the two powers, enabled Germany to attack Poland without the fear of Soviet intervention. Germany invaded Poland, The Polish army was quickly defeated. Britain and France then declared war on Germany.

    Germany wanted a short war with great defeat. For two years the German army used a military tatic called lightning war. A surprise attack. By this tatic Germany gained, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Yugoslavia, and Greece. Germans were unable to gain Great Britain. With a continuing war against Britain, Germans invaded the Soviet Union. Hitler unofficially declared war on the United States which gave more economic and military problems.

    Hitler launched his army to invade the Soviet Union. The invasion covered more than 2,000 miles of land. This was a turning point of the war. Germany had to fight 2 wars on different fronts, Great Britain and the Soviet Union.Germans struggled to the gates of Moscow where Soviet counterattacks stopped them in early December. Germans then slowly retreated from the soviet union.

    On December 7th, Japanese planes invaded the American navel base at Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii. The day after the attack President Roosevelt declared war on Japan. Two days later, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States. The Japanese failed to destory the pacific fleet.

    15 high ranked Nazi officials, and German goverment officials gathered at a villa in te Berlin sub of Wannsee to discuss the "Final Solution of the Jews." Hitler wanted to exterminate all Jews. Approximately 11,000,000 Jews in Europe would fall under the provisions of the "Final Solution."Jews were deployed under appropriate supervision. In large labor columns, separated by gender, able-bodied Jews will be brought to those regions to build roads where a large number will die.

    American and Filipino forces surrendered to Japanese forces. Americans marched for days through hot Philippino jungles, many died. Those who lived often became prisoners on war.

    Germans deported or murdered 300,000 jews in the Warsaw Ghetto. There was at least 55,000-60,000 jews who remained in the Warsaw Ghetto.

    160,000 Allied troops landed on the 5 beaches of Normandy, France to fight the Nazi Germany. By late August all of Northern France had been liberated, and by the following spring the allies had defeated Germany.

    The Soviet Union were the first to liberate concentration camp prisoners. Majdanek in Poland was the first camp to get liberated. With the Soviets quick advance, the Germans attempted to hide the evidence of mass murder with demolishing the camp. The Soviets liberated Auschwitz, the largest killing center and concentraion camp in January 1945
  • Operation Thunderclap

    Two months after D-Day, Sir Charles Portal, chief of the Air Staff, had suggested that the moment Germany approached military collapse, a series of heavy air raids to be launched against east Germanys population. Allies bombed the city of Dresden, and left it in peices of broken buildings, and debre.

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    America went to the island of Iwo Jima, the Japanesse base, and bombed the base. 40,000 American marines were rushed to the shore of Iwo Jima. This is was the first sucessful battle against Japan.

    Okinawa was the largest and longest battle of the Pacific. The Japanese did everything the could to protect Okinawa, but were at the last fight.
  • VE day

    Great Britain and the United States celebrated victory in Europe. The Germans finally surrendered.

    Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
    On August 6, the United States dropped and atomic bomb on Japan, in the city of Hiroshima. 3 days later the United States dropped another bomb on the city of Nagasaki. This led to the formal surrender of Japan.

    This day was the victory over Japan. Americans showed a overwhelming sense of relief and joy.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    In the Ardennes Forest was an area of warfare and ill-suited soldiers. Hitler had the idea of disrupting the allied front and cutting off much needed supplies along the way. Both forces butted heads, but the allies held a strong stand. The Battle of the Bulge was the last German Offensive. By February 1945 all gains by the German Army were done and the war would soon to be over.
