At dawn on December 7, 1941, hundreds of Japanese planes bombed Pearl Harbor. The suprise attack left 2000 US soldiers dead and another 1000 wounded. The next day, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress for a declaration of war, and in a 534-1 vote the US entered the war.
