Bismark signed treaties with Italy and Austria-Hungary. This created the triple alliance. This caused other alliances to be formed and showed mistrust.

Countries were all trying to become the most powerful during this time period. This caused conflicts and rivalries. Germanys fast economic growth threatened Britain.

The archduke announced that he was going to visit the capital of Bosnia. He went against the warnings of his country. He was shot and killed while in his car. This caused conflict with Austria and Serbia.

Austria sent an ultimatum with rules that they wanted Serbia to obey. Serbia accepted most rules but not some. This gave
Austria a chance and they declared war on Serbia. -
France and Russia step in to back Serbia. While Germany backed up Austria. Germany declared war on Russia as well as on France.

A new kind of warfare begins when the two fronts from Russian and Germany begin digging trenches and combatting from them. This created a new kind of war.

The turks were a very desirable ally for both the central powers and the alliances. If they would have allied with the aliances they would completely surround the central powers. They chose central powers and gave them more help.

First Germany, then the allies started using poison gas. This became very deadly to not only the enemy but the side using the gas as well.

First, Britain introduced the very first armored tank. Germany started using zeppelins to bomb the English coast. Germany also used u-boats which could take down large merchant ships.

Although most fighting was taken place in Europe. Japan saw an opportunity to seize German outposts in China and islands in the Pacific. This caused the world to get involved.

Towards the end of the war effort, nations needed extra help to support the military. They used propaganda to get the publics support and give them reason to pay taxes and help the war effort.

Women were suddenly needed to do work in the war. The numbers of troops were getting lower so women jumped in to help nurse and take care of soldiers.

After war had been going on for 3 years, the Russian people began to revolt. This later caused Russia to withdraw from war.

The United States joined the war backing up the Alliances. They had cultural ties with them and knew they needed the help. This was huge for the war effort.

Wilson wanted to achieve peace even though he was part of the war. The fourteen points was to resolve the conflict. This way he could get free trade, reduction of arms, and end secret treaties.

The Germans pushed the Allies about 40 miles back. This exhausted them while the allies with thousands of troops from the United States arriving drove Germany back and made them give up.

How the armistice was usedGermany could not support the war any longer. They signed an agreement to end fighting. The war ended on November 11, 1918.

The cost of war was very great. The allies needed help repairing and tried to force it upon the central powers. They did not help however and they found other ways.

In 1919 the Allies ordered the representatives of Germany to sign the treaty, This imposed full blame of war and 30 billion dollars for rebuilding on Germany.
