  • Zimmerman Telegram

    British intelligence intercepts and deciphers a telegram sent between Germany and Mexico. In the telegram Germany asks Mexico to enter the war. Germany wanted Mexico to attack the United States so as to distract them from the European war front. Mexico would not execute this request.
  • The United States enters WWI

    The United States secretly supplied their allies with ammunition and war vehicles throughout the war, but even with this support the United States stayed officially neutral for most of the war. It wasn't until 1917 that the United States finally decided to officially enter the war. The main factors that led to this decision were the sinking of the Lusitania and the Zimmerman Telegram.
