The reason's behind the Gallipoli Campaign was so that the British could capture the Ottoman Empire Capital and also so they could secure their trading route with Russia which would hopefully stop the war from hitting the western front. When Britain declared war on Germany Australia immediatly sent troops over to help. (Anzacs)
