    Him and his wife were killed in Sarajevo, by Gavrilo Princip. After they were traveling to see the injured. Franz and Sophie decided to go to the palace, but the driver took a wrong turn and Princip spotted them. Prinicp shot Sophie in the abdomen and Franz in the jugular vein.
