    In the 20th century, German vastly increased their armed forces. The worried British navy also too inventory on their naval guard and chose to increase also.

    Many European countries had claimed foriegn lands. They used them for resources. Germany now needed to gain some land and struggled to find unoccupied territory.

    The Archduke and his wife were killed by a Serbian nationalist. The Serbs wanted to have control of Bosnia and Herzegovina and revolted. Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia.

    Woodrow Wilson delcares the U.S. as a neutral party.
  • Warfare

    Germany creates a "war zone" around Britain using submarines. This is an attempt to block out trade going and coming from the country.

    The ship Lusitania is sunk by German U-boats. Americans are killed onboard.
  • Battle of Somme

    The Battle of Somme begins and includes the use of tanks. Falkenhayn's goal was to "bleed France white".
  • U.S. intervention

    The U.S. declares war on Germany.

    The Bolsheviks successfully revolt after Czar Nicholas II abdicates.
  • Armistance

    An armistance is called and affects mostly Germany.
  • 14 Points

    Woodrow Wilson first introduces his 14 points at the Treaty of Paris. He was in favor of helping Germany recover and also to prevent another world war.
  • Peace

    Germany officially signs the armistance on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles ends WW1 and grants France lost territory and reduces Germany's military significantly.
