The United States drops an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The bomb’s immediate impact took the lives of an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 Japanese, American, and Korean people. After a few months an estimated 135,000 people died as a direct or indirect result of the bomb.

The United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. About 40,000 to 75,000 people die immediately following the impact, while an additional 60,000 people suffered from severe injuries. By the end of 1945, the total death count reaches an estimated 80,000.
