Womens Suffrage Movement

  • Susan B. Anthony

    She founded the National Women Suffrage Association in 1869. She led other women to vote with her over 150 times in 10 statesand the District of Columbia.
  • Illegal Voting

    It was illegal for women to vote or have any say in government, but African Americans were able to have some say in government.
  • Carry Nation and the WCTU

    Carry Nation worked for prohibition as well as the WCTU. When they found this cause to fight for, they gained a voice politically just a little bit.
  • NAWSA Tactics

    This group united with the NWSA in 1890 which strengthened the women's political voice because of all of their members.
  • Carrie Chapman Catt and New NAWSA Tactics

    Carrie Chapman Catt was the succesor as president of NAWSA. She concentrated on 5 tactics:
    1. Painstaking organization
    2. Close ties between local, state, and national workers
    3. Establishing a wide base of support
    4. Cautious Lobbying
    5. Gracious, ladylike behavior
  • 19th Amendment

    This amendment granted women the right to vote.
