He informed the founder and producer of the label Clive Davis who at first misjudged Whitney. Whitney performed a private concert for Arista records and got a lot of imput from her parents on whether or not to sign with Arista or Elektra. After lots of decision making Whitney became an Arista Records recording artist in April 1983 at the age of 18.
