We got this land from france, we only asked for some but they gave it all to us. Mississippi river and new orleans is so importanta to the us, because they didnt want to start a new war with france. Some americans wantd to settle in the areas and others were angry about that. Also the seminoles aided the runaway slaves. Monroe sent Andrew ackson. Jackson and his troops invaded flordia to capture the seminole raiders. The agreement between spain and u.s was to settle all border disputed wih the u.s. Spain gave up east florida and u.s gave up its claims to what is now texas. -

Annex means to take contol of land and incorporate into a coutry , stateEtc. The mexican gov. promised cheap or and free land.Also they allowed them to bring there slaves.. Texas had a small population. They relied on arrculture. Also mexico didnt respect freedom and independence. The U.S didnt let texas become a union. They didnt let texas because they were a slave state and they didnt want slavery to expand throughout the south. -

Soain, great britain and russia originally controlled the oregon territory with the U.S. U.S wanted to occupy oregon country and they both didnt want to start a new war. So signing the treaty let them share. California an alaska were created out of the treaty. -

U.s and mexico were fighting over states of calofornia, nevada, and utah. The name of the treaty that ended the war was the treaty of Guadolupe hidalgo. The states that were created were, nevuda and utah. also parts of aizona , colorado and whyoming. It made the size of the united states lager. -
Gadsden purchase
The u.s purchased it so they could take over all of mexico. We paid 10 million. We purchased arizona and new mexico. The continental boudries of the u.s were fixed.
