    The XYZ Affair of 1797-1798 created a Franco-American Quasi War. This event involved three French ministers called X, Y, and Z by John Adams and the American Delegation in France. The Senate looked over the dispatches that the XYZ sent and Republicans were surprised by the French actions.     The United States purchased 828,000,000 square miles of territory from France. 15 states were created from the territory. The new land was explored by Lewis and Clark on their expedition to find the Pacific ocean. One of Thomas Jefferson’s most notable accomplishments as president.     The Adams-Onis Treaty is also referred to as The Florida Treaty. It was signedi n Washington on February 22, 1819 and was ratified by Spain on October 24, 1820. This fixed the western boundary of the Louisiana Purchase.     Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820. Missouri was then admitted as a slave state and Maine as a free state. With the exception of Missouri the law prohibited slavery in the Louisiana Territory. The Missouri Compromise was repealed with the Kansas-Nebraska Act. The Missouri Compromise was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.     In the beginning of the 1830’s around 125,00 Native Americans lived in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and Florida. At the end of the decade very few people were left.     During December 1835, a group of Texan soldiers stood at the Alamo. On February 23, 1836 a Mexican force in the thousands attacked.     Texas claimed independence from Mexico on March 2. The Texans had claimed a constitution that protected the free practice of slavery which was not allowed in Mexico.     The Mexican-American War of 1846-1848 was marked as the first U.S. armed conflict fought on foreign soil.     On September 9, 1850, California became the 31st state of the United states. California became territory to the United States in 1848 when Mexico agreed on the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Mexico thought that California wasn't going to be a big loss when they gave it up.     Gadsden Purchase

    The Gadsden Purchase was an agreement between the United States and Mexico which was finalized in 1854. The United States agreed to pay Mexico $10 million for 29,670 square miles.   • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed by the U.S. Congress on May 30, 1854. This allowed people in Kansas and Nebraska to decide for their self to or to not allow slavery in their borders. The Kansas-Nebraska act repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820 which prohibited slavery. After the act was passed people who did and did not support slavery flooded in to settle Kansas's outcome.
