    When the British won the French and Indian War, it opened up a lot of territory. Though normally the British would explore this territory, they were left in debt and needed more money ue to the war. If the colonists were to explore, there is a very likely chance they would get into a fight with the French or Native American.     West & East Florida
    Britain made East and West Florida out of territory it got from Spain and France after the French and Indian War .Britain found that it was hard to control all of Florida so they split it in two. Britain gave back both Floridas to Spain after the American Revolution. However a majority of West Florida was slowly annexed by the United States. Spain ceded East Florida and the remainder of West Florida to the U.S.

    America and its states were in debt and needed money; however, under the articles of confederation, they could not tax the states and citizens. America ended up printing a lot of paper money, but this backfired and actually made the economy worse. What they ended up doing was selling parts of the Ohio River Valley ( otherwise known as the Northwest territory), which was given to them by Britain after they won the revolution.

    The United States signed the Convention of 1818 with Great Britain in order to settle some issues from The Treaty of Ghent (ended the War of 1812). The new treaty stated that Britain and the United States would both occupy Oregon Territory. The land that the United States got in the treaty, known as the Red River Basin, would end up becoming parts of the states of Minnesota and North Dakota.

    U.S. purchase of land in southern New Mexico and Arizona south of the Gila River. It was purchased to get approval for a southern railroad route to the Pacific Coast in that territory.

    Hawaii was becoming a huge sugar dealer for the U.S. However, The Mckinley Tariff was passed and it raised import rates on foreign sugar. As a result, Hawaii went into depression and realized that if they were annexed by the U.S the tariff problem would naturally disappear. Years later war eventually broke out with Spain, and America needed Hawaii as a naval base. It was then annexed to the United States.
