The world of science is forever changed in this year, when Thomas Kuhn releases his book, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. Breaking down traditional myths of science; that philosophical theories of science does not actually influence true scientific behavior, This work will forever influence not only every aspect of science, but will also have its ideas transferred over to businesses and even politics(Godfrey-Smith 75).

The Structure of Scientific Revolutions is expanded. The book explaining paradigm shifts in science and explaining many other ideas, has since sold over a million copies and is an unprecedented success for an academically philosophical book. Many debates are started, arguing over these theories, most notably in biology(Nickles 1).

Biologists such as Stephen Jay Gould and Niles Eldredge make a connecting argument in the history of biology to Thomas Kuhn's theories. They argue that throughout the history of evolution, organisms go through long periods of minimal change, and then hit what could also be described as a paradigm shift, causing rapid changes to occur over a much shorter period of time, due to new stressors in the environment. They describe this theory as "Punctuated Equilibrium". (Godfrey-Smith 100)

Through his work, Thomas Kuhn became one of the greatest philosophers in science. His theories caused not just a paradigm shift in science, but also transcended to everyday life, through businesses we work and live off of, to the politics we elect to lead us. Kuhn kept debating his theories while keeping an open mind in listening to other debates relating to his work until his death on this date. Debates are still being held regarding him, despite his passing 26 years ago.
