Charles Darwin started studying medicine at University of Edinburgh in 1825 when he was only 16. Darwin's dad wanted him to become a doctor but he couldn't stand the sight of blood. He then switched to Christ's College in Cambridge where he studied a general degree. Darwin had a lot of interest in natural history which is what he ultimately started to study.

In 1831 Darwin went on a voyage on a ship where he was a naturalist. Darwin spent five years collecting samples of animals, plants, fossils, and rocks. In 1859, Charles Darwin published his book (On the Origin of Species. The book being published was what linked Darwin to the theory of evolution. The theory is known as Darwinism, the name came to be by philosopher Daniel Dennett.
Daniel Dennett described this as "the single best idea anyone has ever had." Darwinism has changed over time. It linked that human beings were just another species out there that has evolved over time.

In 1871 Charles Darwin published his second book called The Descent of Man. The focus on this book expanded on his studies of evolution but also added in the Relation to Sex. Darwin brought up in the book how he believed human beings evolved from monkeys and apes which was a huge paradigm shift from what people believed, that god created everyone individually.
