    Gulf of Tonkin Incident
    The destroyer USS Maddox was performing a signals intelligence patrol when it engaged three North Vietnamese Navy torpedo boats which where part of the 135th Torpedo Squadron. The fight that ensued resulted in the death of four Vietnamese soldiers and no American casualties.

    Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
    The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution authorized the president to “take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression.” It was a result of a suposed second attack in the Gulf of Tonkin. It is thought that there might not have even been any Vietnamese ships.

    Operation Rolling Thunder
    Operation rolling thunder was the strategic and aggressive bombing of North Vietnam. The thought behind it was to lower morale of the soldiers and citizens of North Vietnam in order to reduce the capacity to wage war against South Vietnam. Ultimately it didn't work they just kept rebuilding but stronger.
  • Tet Offensive

    Tet Offensive
    On the vietnamese holiday of Tet the North attacked around 100 major cities and towns in South Vietnam. The size and ferocity of the attack shocked Americans. Some towns and cities they where able to repel the Communists in hours others it took weeks of fighting.
  • Mai Lai Massacre

    Mai Lai Massacre
    Soldiers entered the village looking for Viet Cong but didn't find any. Instead they rounded up and brutally murdered hundreds of civilians. They where mostly women, children and old men. They also raped and tortured the civilians. They gunned down hundreds of people when not on shot had been fired at them. There was a attempted to cover it up and the American people didn't find out until November 13, 1969.
  • Kent State Shooting

    Kent State Shooting
    At Kent State University the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of demonstrators, killing four and wounding nine other students. This lead to protests at campuses around the country which caused hundreds of Universities to close.
  • The Paris Peace Accords

    The Paris Peace Accords
    The Pease Accords was "An Agreement Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam" It was a sease fire and a promise to remove American troops and advisors. All troops where out of Vietnam by March 29, 1973.
