    During this day a US destroyer was cruising in the gulf of Tonkin. Some reports say that a North Vietnam boat attacked the boat, for no reason. While others say that the boat was radaring the area which made the boat attack the US. After the attack the US considered this an act of war which we drafted soliders.

    Rolling Thunder
    Rolling Thunder was approved by the president to drop bombs in military areas. We thought it would take 2 weeks to defet the emeny, but they had better plans. Americans were told to attack many areas more then once, because the enemy built the place back up. America drop 684,000 tons of bombs during the Vietnam War. To make it more eye popping, we dropped 5 times as many bombs in Vietnam then WWII.

    Johnson calls more troops to South Vietnam
    During this address Johnson says that he is drafting more troops to South Vietnam. It went from 75,000 to 125,000. Which didn't make the country very happy. Their were many protest that Johnson's decision was wrong. This was when protest became very popular, because of Vietnam and the Civil Rights Movement. This was important because the number of soldiers only increased.

    Battle of La Drang
    The Battle lasted for 4 days. The Americans went into this location and were told that their was only 100 or soldiers, but when they arrived to the area they found a spy. The spy told them there was over 3,000 men in the mountain. When the Americans only had a little over a 1000. They won the battle, it was one of the big movements for air combat. This is a big moment for Vietnam, because its one of the few battles they won.

    The Tet offensive was a suprise attack on all of the South Vietnam cities. It showed people that we weren't really winning the war. This helped the American people get mrore angery. This was a huge suprise to the government, soldiers, and the American people, because it showed that we were really losing this war.

    With the nation wondering if Johnson was going to address what was happening in Vietnam, and Johnson gave them a suprise saying that he is sending some troops back and is not going for relection. This was important, because Johnson was not liked by the country.
