    The Virtual Boy by Nintendo was a set of goggles with a screen inside that produced a red color. This was not easy on the eyes with the system only producing the color red while also just producing a false 3D effect by putting a screen right next to the eyes(1)

    HTC Vive
    Around the same time as Oculus another company was working on their own VR system. HTC released the Vive around the same time as the Oculus Rift however the difference being that HTC was supported by the powerhouse known as Valve. this lead to greater support for VR on Steam (Valve's Online game store) (3)

    Oculus Rift
    founded in 2012 oculus started experimenting with VR from the get go, with a kickstarter to fund the development of their first headset the Oculus Rift. Facebook had learned about Oculus and bought the company in 2014 with the support from Facebook in only 2 years the Oculus Rift finally Released to the public in early 2016 (2)

    VR game developers

    VR right now is dominated by smaller development studios that produce the games rather than a larger studio such as Microsoft, Ubisoft, and others. Though Sony is trying to step in with their own VR system it is exclusive to playstation. Thus on PC and Oculus smaller studios have stepped up to provide the majority of games to the players
    one company is Stress Level Zero . Stress Level Zero has produced a few games their most known for making Boneworks. (5)
  • Valve index

    Valve index
    After the success of the HTC Vive Valve starts working on their own head set with individual finger tracking on the controllers. The Index was released in mid 2019 and was sold out by the end of the day around this time Valve also announced the release of a new title that would join with the purchase of the Index for free that being Half-Life Alyx
