    WWI started with Austria-hungary taking Bosnia and Hezegovina under thier empire, which made Croatia and Serbia quite upset.
    On the national day of Bosnia archduke Franz Ferdinand chose to inspect Bosnia. This decision made Ferdinant unpopulair in Bosnia and he was killed by a serbian student the 28 June 1914
    This killing made a conflict between Serbia and Austria-Hungary and ending with Austria declaring war on Serbia.

    Source Rupert Brooke joined the Royal Naval Division and the Antwerp exibidition in the beginning of the war. After the trip he wrote some of his most popular poems including "The Soldier"

    The poem The poem describes the patriotic feeling the citizens of England get in the beginning of WWI.
    The narrator is a soldier telling the people that when he dies, the people should keep on fighting for England.
    The people want to protect their country and with it, but they don't know how the war is going to be. Rupert Brooke was born on August 3 1887 and died in April 23 1915.

    The Poem The poem is about a boy attending war to be a hero and ends up dying.
    The poem ends every stanza with "Billy, the soldier boy", to point out the message of children being in war. Ruth Comfort Mitchell was born in 1882 and died in 1954.

    The poem The poem “Dulce et Decorum est pro patria mori” is Latin and an old proverb meaning “it is sweet and proper to die for one’s country” by Horace. The narrator does not understand the old “lie”. In the poem the word “children” appears describing the soldiers, whom only are children fighting for something they do not understand. Wilfred Owen was born on March 18 1893 and died on November 4 1918

    The battle of Iwo Jima was a battle during world war II.Iwo Jima is an island in Japan, where the first attack on Japanese soil by the Americans. Iwo Jima was attacked by naval and air support.
    This battle was the only battle where the American death- and wounded-number was higher than the opponent.
    Iwo Jima was declared secure 9:00 the 26th of March 1945.The battle of Iwo Jima has become iconic for US. There were given 27 medals of honor.

    At the 8. May 1945 the war ended in Europe, after Hitler died the 30. april 1945.
    The war did continue in Asia, and it was first in august 1945 where U.S. planted to atomic bombs in Hiroshima (the 8. august) and Nagasaki (the 9. august) that the war ended officially the 15. august 1945.

    Vietnam was divided into North and South after France withdraw its forces and was defeated by Vietnam. They left a buffer-zone which divided Vietnam. North Vietnam was strongly communistic and had allies as Russia and China. The communistic regime tried to conquer South Vietnam back, but at this time U.S. wanted to help, so the distribution of the communistic regime did not succeed.

    The Ted Offesive by the Viet Cong
    The Viet Cong was against The U.S. troops and South Vietnam. The Viet Cong did not fight in larger battles, but they did it in January 1968. The Tet Offensive.I was a massive attack by the North Vietnamese Army. It took the Americans completely by surprise. They attacked all major US military bases and all major South Vietnamese cities. However the Americans forced the Vietnamese back. It ended with some great loses on both sides. 160,000 civilians were killed and 2 millions made homeless.
  • Pinksville Massacre

    During the war Innocent civilians were killed on both sides. Both sides killed those they believed helped the opponent. The village, Pinksville, was considered friendly to the U.S. troops. But while they investigated the village the Americans believed that they had been conspiring with the Viet Cong. 109 civilians were murdered. This massacre was better know as Pinksville Massacre or My Lai massacre.

    Already in October 1972 a secret peace agreement between the U.S. and North Vietnam’s Le Duc Tho, was going to be a reality. But the south Vietnam’s President Thieu was not happy with the result.
    That let to a booming attack in December 1972 on Hanoi and Haiphong, named Operation Linebacker II.
    In January 15 1973 South Vietnam accept the peace agreement. After booming of their country. That led to the Paris Peace Accord that was a ceasefire between North and South Vietnam.
