  • National Liberation Front

    The NLF was created in South Vietnam. This organization was made by Lao Dong Party Central Committee, to reach out to those who didn’t like President Ngo Dinh Diem’s policies and government.

    South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem is executed during a coup.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Incident

    North Vietnamese attack two U.S. ships settling in the Gulf of Tonkin.
  • The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    U.S. Congress passes the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. This gave U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson the power to use military force in Southeast Asia, without a formal declaration of war from Congress.
  • Tet Offensive

    North Vietnamese and Viet Cong launch the Tet Offensive. This attacking showed Americans that their oppent was stronger than them. This was a turning point in the war and made military leaders stop fighting in the war.
