  • Taylor And Rostow Report

    The first U.S. helicopter units arrive in Saigon. There was a total of 400 crewmates who arrived on the 33 Vertol H-21 C.
  • U.S. Begins To Use Defoliants

    The U.S. Airforce executes Operation Ranch Hand in order to prevent the Vietcong from transferring supplies and troops on roads and trails. This event was very controversial because it destroyed over 10% of the vegetation in Vietnam, as well as it caused many disabilities to the soldiers in the war.
  • U.S. Helicopters Are Ordered To Shoot First

    After two U.S. helicopters are shot down transferring South Vietnamese soldiers. The U.S. helicopters are ordered to shoot first.
  • Diem Overthrow

    South Vietnam's President Diem was overthrown and killed during a military coup, authorized by the U.S. The U.S. wanted to overthrow Diem in order to strengthen the opposition to the communist Viet Cong.
  • U.S. Base At Plieku Attacked

    Viet Cong troops attack Camp Halloway. Eight Americans were killed and 126 were wounded. President Johnson orders an immediate retaliatory strike on North Vietnam and 49 U.S. Navy Jets attack North Vietnam.
  • Heaviest Air Raids Of The War

    Five hundred U.S. Airforce bombers bomb targets in North Vietnam. This is the heaviest air raid of the war.

    U.S. Victory In Hills Around Khesan

    U.S. Marines defeat Notrh Vietnamese troops in the hills around the air strip at Khe Sanh. The U.S. troops receive massive air support in this battle which helps them to win. 160 U.S. servicemen are killed and 764 are wounded. The communists lose over 940 men and the U.S. is able to capture their position.
  • Protesters Gather At The Lincoln Memorial

    100,000 Anti-war protestors gather at the Lincoln Memorial to protest the Vietnam war. Later on, 30,000 protestors continue to march on into the Pentagon and assault soldiers and U.S. Marshalls.
  • Draft Lottery Begins

    The government issues a draft lottery, the first draft since World War II. Many Americans fled to Canada in order to dodge the draft. They were known as "draft dodgers"
  • William Calley

    The American public learns of what William Calley did to an innocent village in South Vietnam. Lieutenant William Calley is charged with murder for leading an attack that would result in the Mai Lai Massacre where many innocent people were killed.
  • Vietnam War Protests

    Millions of American citizens gather across the country to protest the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. These Protests are said to be the largest public protests in U.S. History to date.
  • Kent State Massacre

    The killing of four unarmed students, and the winding of nine others by the Ohio National Guard. At the Kent State University in Ohio
  • The Pentagon Papers

    New York Times published the Pentagon Papers and it revealed the U.S.'s involvement in Vietnam during the Kennedy administration. It also revealed that the heavy bombing of North Vietnam did not reduce the North Vietnamese's will to fight.
  • End Of The Draft

    The Selective service declares that the draft is over and the military is all-volunteer. This is important because many American protestors have been fighting to remove the draft on the homefront.
  • Vietnam Veterans Memorial

    The Vietnam veterans memorial is dedicated to Washington D.C.
