    In an attempt to solve some world issue, the Geneva Accords happened in Switzerland. This resulted in Vietnam being split into North and South Vietnam. This triggered war between them shortly after, as they had many disagreements about each others society, specifically in their economy and government.

    Ngo Dinh Diem was the president of South Vietnam and a strong anti-communist leader. A coup against South Vietnam was being planned by the North after some disagreements. They killed many leaders, and executed Diem with a revolver.

    This was a massacre by the United States on South Vietnamese, no mercy at all. This was caused by a mixture of lowered moral and an attempt to make the war look bad, which did succeed. Ended in at least 347 dead.

    After the democratic party split into two, Nixon took advantage of this for the 1968 election. He ended up winning, especially with help from the conservatives.

    Nixon wanted to get the United States out of the war, so he put in his Vietnamization policy. This plan was to have the United States strengthen the Southern Vietnamese military, while slowly removing their own troops until they were able to fight on their own.

The visit was wildly successful, as it caused a shift in the cold war balance and hindered USSR's and China's relationship, as now the USSR had to work with the United States.

    In order to force North Vietnam into joining peace discussions, Nixon decided to mass bomb them for 12 days straight, targeting major cities such as Hanoi. This did end up working, and peace talks started to begin.

    After forcing North Vietnam to participate in peace talks, an agreement was reached and a peace treaty was signed. This was primarily between the United States, North Vietnam, and South Vietnam, and was signed mostly due to hemorrhaging moral and large costs.
